Champion Overview:

Udyr is a tanky DPS champion With no ultimate capable of morhping into different animals at will to gain different bonuses on his auto attacks. Udyr is very strong in top lane where many champions rely on auto attacks or getting in auto range to do a good amount of their damage.

Skills Overview:

Passive: Bridge Between- Entering a stance grants Udyr 10% attack speed for 5 seconds. This effect can stack up to 3 times.
This passive gives udyr the ability to land autos faster in committed fights as the fight goes on. It is essentially the same as Jax's passive except with skills to get the stacks.

Q: Wilding Claw- Activation: On his next attack, Udyr swipes at his target, dealing normal attack and dealing 150% of his attack damage + 30 / 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 extra damage over 2 seconds as magic damage. In addition, It increases attack speed 5% less than passive for 5 seconds. Persistent Effect: Udyr's attack speed is increased by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40%. Half of this is persistent, the other half is activated for 5 seconds. Cooldown 6 seconds. Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana.
This skill is AMAZING. 1.5 AD ratio, factored in the fact you can apply it 2x if you "charge" it before hand. The atk speed boost is nice for pushing, killing targets, and last hitting if you do not need turtle stances hp or mana.
Note: You can charge udyr's tiger stance by using the skill while you are in the fountian, the damage component of the tiger stance (The 1.5 AD ratio) stays meaning when you see an enemy, you can auto-Q-auto and you will do 60 damage plus 3x you AD AND all your normal auto damage. With ignite added in at level 1 this is a freekill if you can land it.

W: Iron Mantle- Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+50% of ability power) damage. Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores 10/12/14/16/18% of his damage as health and 5/6/7/8/9% of his damage as mana. Cooldown 6 seconds. Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana.
This skill gives you a shield got a good amount of hp AS WELL AS making your autos heal your hp and mana. Note this is DAMAGE wriggles procs, DFG, any item that does damage heals you hp and mana in this stance.

E: Blazing Stampede- Activation: Udyr gains 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27% increased movement speed for 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 seconds. Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds. Cooldown 6 seconds. Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana.
Your gap closer and stun. This skill is in essence a mini ghost spell on the active, while the persistent effect gives you nautilus's passive except with a stun instead of a root.

R: Wingborne Storm- Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing 15/25/35/45/55 (+25% of ability power) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, Udyr's ability power is increased by 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 / 48 and his attack damage is increased by half of that amount. Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+25% of ability power) magic damage. Cooldown 6 seconds.Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana.
More of a jungling spell, the AoE would needlessly push your lane. End game this is ok for when you need to push to end the game, but not really before then.

Playing AS/VS:

As:
  • Charge your tiger stance
  • Remmeber to keep your passive up for tower pushing
  • Spread the bear stun around in teamfights, it is useful to be able to stun different enemy team key members at will.
Vs:
  • Bait out his stances and bait/fight him when he tries to turtle back his mana.
  • Getting MR is a smart choice vs udyr due to his tiger damage being magical.
  • AVOID UDYRS FIRST TIGER AUTO AT ALL COSTS!

Big Item Choices::

Wriggle's Lantern- Heals your mana/hp really well in turtle

Trinity Force- All good stats for you

Wit's End- Hit stronger!

Spirit Visage- Gets you more sustain

Maw of Malmortius- Strong vs AP lanes and allows a wounded tiger to be really strong.

Guardian Angel- Undyingdyr.

Bloodthirster-Well if your team needs more damage.

Gametypes:

SoloQ:

Udyr can stomp solo que games. Most players do not expect his tiger damage making you able to easily win lane. Udyr is also widely used as a jungler making players think he will be there.
Ranked 5s:

Udyr can work very well as a counterpick here. Udyr will fit into team comps that have allies that can hold down enemies until he can get to them to finish them off.

Conclusion:

This was my top facts Udyr. I hope you enjoy playing this formshifting champion as much as I do. He is a very strong pick and a good addition to anyones top lane lineup. As always good luck summoners and have a good day on the fields of justice!

SERIES UPDATE:
I plan on releasing these every day/other day until I get all of the top lane picks in the league ( about 50-60 of them) if there are any requests leave in the comments below and ill work on them. I want to make this series for others to better understand the champions of top lane. Once I am done (Or once I have a few top facts out) I will release some Facts about top lane mechanics, eventually I will probably put everything into one generic top lane guide, however until I do that I will continue to watch and update my blogs as needed. Tips and tricks I missed under my Top Facts would be helpful if you put anything I don't have in the comments I will be sure to add it. I will be forming a guide called The complete guide to Top lane or something in that nature. The intention of this series is not as a "Build guide" or a "play guide", these are more like facts you should know about the champion. These are to inspire people to think of new champion possibilities they might not have thought of or to help a new player with the champion. I do not list runes masteries or a set build ( I give a kind of recommended items) in here due to the fact I want people to think of that for themselves and try new things. This series is an attempt for the LOL community to try new things and have fun in a fun game. Thank you for reading and have a nice day :P
