I picked up Cube World this morning due to the DOS issues their servers have been facing. So far, I like it!

Some of my recommendations for characters:
Water mages (spirit mage → skills → water) are a great starting class, as you don't have to worry (as much) about your out-of-combat HP. Though it also applies in-combat, I think Guardians (Warrior) are better for in-combat HP. I've tried Rogue (Ninja), but it requires a lot of patience to do it correctly.

You should get your first two basic skills before you get your first utility skill. (i.e. for mages this is an improved attack and mana shield). Utility skills are Riding, Hang Gliding, and Boating. Choose according to your environment (if you don't have a pet, I'd recommend Hang Gliding unless you're in an Oceanic biome, where boating is clearly the better choice). After that, get your third basic skill.

Dwarves and Goblins can climb through windows and other small openings. They are the only species that can do so. I want halflings :(

Characters can be used on ALL servers. Meaning you keep your progress and inventory when you change worlds.

Recommendations for gameplay:
Avoid unfriendly witches. Period. Lasers of doom. Don't say I didn't warn you.

If it's red, you're dead. If you wish to kill a red mob, be prepared with red potions. This also applies to areas with red titles.

Teleport (mage 3rd) will save you from fall damage if you don't have a hang glider!

Gold > Purple > Blue > Green > White. These are the tiers for rare armor. The armor name will be the corresponding color.

Seed 2689 apparently has a Lamp (gold) in the general store. I HIGHLY recommend making a personal world with that seed, going to the store, and buying it. Lamps are very cheap and you'll appreciate the brightness a gold lamp offers.

Crafting raw materials can net you 2 or even 3 of the product on occassion.

TAB lets you change your current consumable. Took me a while to figure that out. SHIFT lets you walk and removes your targeting cursor.

Get a turtle. Or a Snout Beetle. They're both mounts. Turtles have the most HP for a pet and Snout Beetles do ranged attacks.

Recommendations for multiplayer:
If you have a buddy who has been playing for a while, make a multiplayer server and leech him while he's attacking bosses. I gained 5 levels when my brother killed a nearby boss monster. In order to leech, you must deal damage to the target and not leave the area by the time it dies (aka, don't die before it dies, or come back and damage it before it dies).

All multiplayer servers start you in Terodara. (You can change the seed of a multiplayer server by editing Server.cfg in your Cube World program folder.) Southwest is an Oceanic biome, west is a desert, northwest is a forest biome. I haven't checked anything to the east yet.

Multiplayer servers tend to have more difficult mobs.
