Introduction

Hello MOBAfire! I am here to bring you an idea I had for a short story series! To give a short summary on whats going on in this series, it is set 20 years in the future from the point in time Runeterra is in in the current lore, and it is a very different place from what we currently see. The Institute of War has been shut down (sound familiar?), Demacia and Noxus have entered this "Cold War" status, and Shurima is slowly growing in power.

These stories follow Annie Hastur, the cute little pyromaniac 4 year old we all know and love, now fully grown, and having fully realized her potential. Wouldn't it be interesting to find out exactly what she can do, now that she is 24 years old? Well, you'll have to read on to find out.

Prologue

"Hello Annie. How are you today?"

Another interrogator. This is the fourth one. What do they want from me? I've already told them everything I know, but yet, it's like they're trying to find something, find a weakness. Of course they would try to find a weakness, this is Noxus, where weakness doesn't exist. Hell, their leader is so 'strong' that he doesn't show a shred of emotion, and hasn't shown any since he got his leg cut off. Well, I'm the strongest thing they've ever seen. They won't find any weakness in me.

"What do you want?"

"I just want to have a friendly conversation with you."

"A Noxian being friendly to a prisoner? Has hell frozen over?"

He chuckled? What a surprise. "You would actually be surprised at the number of people that actually care about others in this city."

"Whatever. You're here to get information out of me, just like the rest of them."

"Actually, in all honesty, I'm not here for information. You've given us enough of that."

What? Then what is he after? He has to be after something...right? "Then what do you want?"

"I'm here to ask for help."

"A Noxian...asking for help...from a prisoner? Hell certainly has frozen over."

"Annie, here in Noxus, as you may very well know, we value strength above all other features. However, this doesn't only apply to physical strength, it also applies to mental strength. What you went through tested both your physical and emotional strength to the breaking point, and the fact that you came out of it, both alive, and mentally sane, is a testament to your strength. It doesn't matter if you're a prisoner, a homeless peasant on the streets, or the Grand General of Noxus, if you show your strength, you will rise through the ranks in this city."

"So is that it? You want to use me as a weapon? You already have plenty of those."

"Not at all. We actually have a certain...errand we need you to do. We can't have any of our current champions take on this task due to them being far too associated with our city, and that could hinder their progress. You, on the other hand, have no history whatsoever with this city, so the people of Valoran would be far less suspicious of you."

"And what do I get in return? A life's sentence instead of a public execution?"

"Quite the contrary. We will not only release you from prison, we shall also erase any records of you that we have in this city. It would be as if you never stepped foot in the city."

That actually sounds nice. But again, this is Noxus. He could very well be lying through...

"Oh, and did I happen to mention that the Noxian Government would pay quite a hefty price for this to be done?"

Now he has my attention. "What's your definition of 'hefty'?"

"Oh, lets just say, you could go into very early retirement, with a little spending money left over."

I'm amazed. I never thought Noxian high command was even capable of giving such a reward. Whatever they need done is something I might regret doing in the future. But how could I turn down such an offer? "And what is this errand?"

"After the incident at The Institute of War 20 years ago, Nexus shard fragments were scattered across Runeterra. One of them happened to land right here in Noxus. It was immediately retrieved in order to be studied to see if there was any power left in it, but, unfortunately, it had decayed into nothing more then a decorative paper holder. We do have a theory, though, that if all of the pieces come back together to make the shard once more, its power will return."

"And you want to use that as a weapon?"

"Actually, with how much Noxians enjoy waging war against our enemies, there are times when we need to take a step back, take a look at our city, and behold the disgraceful state it is in. Rebuilding that Nexus will help us improve our great city, and make it, once again, the fearsome title it has gained over the centuries."

"For once, you actually sound Noxian."

"I guess I should I take that as a compliment."

"Take it however you like, but whatever you'll use it for, its still a deal I can't pass up. How long do you think this will take?"

"We're not sure. It could take weeks, it could take years. We have no idea exactly how many fragments are out there, or how spread out they are. However, each champion that was once in the League of Legends could feel the power coming off of the Nexus. This prolonged exposure gave each champion the ability to sense its fragments. That fragment that landed here in Noxus not only landed in a remote part of the city, but also in the dead of night. And yet, the champion's ability to sense the fragment was strong enough that it actually woke up any that were sleeping when it hit the ground, and they all knew the exact location of where it landed. However, no one else knew this had happened."

"And you think I have this ability as well?"

"Without a doubt. However, we suspect that your unmatched power gives you a slight advantage over other champions. You should be able to sense the fragments no matter how far away they are from you."

Now that he mentions it, I have realized that I have felt...something. Something I was connected to. I've tried to follow this...feeling before, and see if it takes me anywhere. That feeling led me straight to Noxus, and its how I ended up in this cell. I was trying to break into a store room, for thats where it had led me. But, a guard caught me in the act, and I was surrounded in seconds. Three days later, and here I am talking to this absolute stranger that has just offered me the deal of a life time.

"So, what do you say?"

"I think you have yourself a deal. I'd like to make a warning, though."

"And what is that?"

"If the Noxian High Command ever decides to backstab me while I am on this 'errand' of theirs, I will make damn sure that your 'Great City of Noxus' is nothing more then a faded memory."

"If I may ask, since your power is unmatched, why haven't you put up any kind of fight so far?"

"I know how powerful I am, and I know what I am capable of. I do not want to see any more innocent people die by my hands, and that includes Noxians, even if your views on the world are twisted."

"Interesting."

"But don't you dare think that is a sign of weakness. I will not hesitate to burn this entire city to the ground if your leaders happen to backstab, or even lie to me."

"I didn't think you were showing any kind of weakness even for a second. Well then, I shall go and tell my elders the good news. I will be back in the morning with your belongings so that you could be on your way as soon as possible."

"Don't forget my part of the message."

"Wouldn't dare."

About time hes gone. At least I now I have some time to think about this 'journey' ahead of me. Although, I just thought of something.

I never did ask what his name was.

Welp! There you have it. I originally made this for the League forums, but figured it would be nice to put them on here as well, where I am a slightly more well known.

Feel free to tell me what you think!
