"The main appeal about Manamune is that it increases your max mana quicker than Archangel's Staff does, because it scales off autoattacks, so you reach that +1000 mana faster and you therefore deal more damage. At least in theory it does - I'm not sure how practical this is."

Think about it. His AP scaling is crap, yet he typically ends the game with upwards of 4,000 mana.
