Hey guys and Welcome to Nera's Corner with the Twisted Treeline part 2!
Today we are going to tackle what i find is the most important things in this gamemode and also team comps and Lane Matchups.
This is a list in order of what i think is most important to the less important:
1) Vilemaw
2) Farm
3) Altars
4) Kills/ganks
Now then why did i put them in this order?
1) Vilemaw can easily change the pace of the game with the global gold and his Buff. If you are loosing its going to give that push back into the game. If you are winning it's going to give you that extra edge when in teamfights to make sure you don't lose.
2) I find the farm is really important in this map. Iv'e played alot of normals where players would just try to go for kills and end up underlvled and underfarmed because they went for the kills too much. The farm enables you to lvl up faster but also with the last hitting allows you to even have the gold to be able to outitemize the other team. I tell you enough how farm is so important in this map just like any other map.
3) Altars just like vilemaw can change the pace of the game. One Altar in my opinion is good until mid-late game because the 10% AD/Ap ratio won't do too much to your damage output and your time is better spent farming.
4) Now you may be asking yourself why kills last? Is he saying that kills aren't important?
My answer to that is that they are really important! But i wouldn't go out of my way to get one if the enemy is full hp. If i know for 100% sure i can get the kills then yes i will go for it. If not i'll wait until later in the game when my farm is up and i know i can handle the enemy team. I'll incorporate ganks into this section as it is equally as important. I personally go for a gank when i know i can:
A) Burn a summoners spell as they have an high impact in the Twisted Treeline and if they are burnt out it gives a major advantage to my team in that lane or,
B) Get the kill or,
C)Prevent an ally from getting killed.
Team Composition: They are many team composition ranging from having alot of CC,Alot of Dmg, heck iv'e even seen a Critical hit team... Which i kind of ******ed by the way. Team Composition all depends on what suits your team best. As for who goes where there are multiple ways to go about it.
Possible teams
CC team:Amumu,Lux,Darius. The Amumu/Lux combo will stun while doing poke damage while Darius cleans up the mess.
Dmg Team: Darius,Vayne,Singed. A pretty Normal team incorporating Damage tankiness and an ap caster.
Crit Hit Team: Vayne,Tryn,Yi. The Crit damage from these three can demolish a team if you are not careful. Yi is able to alpha strike it do a crit and run out. Tryn can go in tank some of the damage so the other two can do their thing. Vayne in the back row doing her job.
There are quite more team comps but those are some of the basics of some of the Team Comps. Depends on how your team want to roll the enemies faces.
Lane Matchups: There is the 2 top 1 bot,2 bot 1 top and finally 1 top 1 bot 1 jungle.
1) 2 top 1 Bot: This lane matchup is rarely seen but could be used if you want to shut out the Top laner really hard while you put someone with an easy farm and good amounts of tankyness rate down Bot like Singed.
2) 1 top 2 Bot: The traditional laning matchup seen. Making one lane stronger than the other in minion farm and possibly kills. That top lane should be someone who is a good duelist as you will mostly be in a 1 v 1 lane unless Bot ganks.
3) Finally we have the 1 top 1 bot and 1 jungle: This in my opinion is the best lane matchup as it enables all players in your team to get their own farm and to lvl up faster as you don't share a lane. It also enables you to have better Altar control and also makes it so that the top and bot laners never know when a gank is coming in as there is always one of your team members MIA, he could appear at anytime and from anywhere on this small map and go for the kill or the summoner spell burn.

The best composition for Twisted Treeline would seem to be a jungler, and two solo laners. This way, your team gains irreculably faster and better CS. In normals it's a common sight to see duo bot though. Top laner is usually a beefy bruiser like J4, Renekton, or Lee Sin.
Bot laner is, imho, best to be a rather versatile, mobile mage that has the team's CC, and is a good farmer. Lissandra is very godly example (gotta buy her). Basically though, Teemo and Zyra are strong due to providing map vision to help replace wards. They come in handy when you need to watch for the 2 routes to gank you. It's damn easy for the top laner to push the lane to tower and come gank the bottom lane from the back bush.
Meanwhile, fast and strong early game jungler like Shyvana or Nocturne and Udyr are the best of the best junglers in 3v3. It's recommended to take smite for Vilemaw and faster clearing, allowing you to even stick ahead in levels compared to your teammates. The jungler is usually rather tanky as well.
Top lane is pretty much the same as in 5v5, Renekton remains my favorite, but Lee Sin and Udyr are beastly as well (no pun intended). Top laner should be constantly awake while farming, due to easiness of counter-ganking bot lane or possibly helping to push the tower. Usually the first team to take down a tower wins due to rising map presence and smaller "safe-zone" for the enemy team. It's easier to control altars and keep and eye on the Vilemaw.
TL;DR: Mobility and AoE combined with CC rules the map. If you snowball, you snowball hard.
Aaaaand Xin Zhao is friggin' OP.
In Twisted Treeline, getting the first turrets before your enemy team is extremely punishing for them. This basically allows you to control the whole map aside from enemy base. Holding both altars and having control over Vilemaw is extremely advantageous. The losing team has very hard time recovering from this.
About kills and farm; In my humble opinion, getting early kills is very good for you, but one should never forget that farming is also important. Myself, I used to almost always try to take down more creeps faster than my lane opponent at top, because if you get level 2 faster and you have a strong champion early, it is always worth trying to go for a kill at lvl 2-3 to snowball out of control. If you get a kill, you push your lane, check bottom lane's situation and gank if possible, after which you see if you can take altar, hack down turret's health, or both.
Farming is important escpecially because it allows you to finish faster due to better item advantage, and the enemy team can't turtle their way to victory from their base. Because Twisted Treeline used to be famous for the extreme tougness to finish games after the enemy team managed to turtle farm from their base. Basically, altars and Vilemaw have taken off from the chances to do so, as the controlling team now snowballs harder.
If you have jungler, he should time the health relic's respawn, as you can easily jungle without smite if you use the relic.
