Views: 2288 My Mid Lux better than your average Morgana
|
So I jumped into a solo-q normal game, and asked for mid which no one argued about (usually people insta-locking Morg, or Ryze without any word). The second I pic Lux I had 3 people tell me to pick someone else... ? Am I really that idiotic or do people not know about Lux still? Our Jungler (Mundo) was the only one that actually said it was cool, but a Ez/Taric combo bot and our top Malph were skeptical to say the least.
Once we get in-game and we see I'm against a Morg the teammates are calling GG already... ? Wow... I know Morg was a fan favorite Mid and all but give Lux some credit here.
So we're doing the CS thing, the trade thing, the dance was beautiful. She dodges, I'm dodging, we're just trying our best to get a good root combo while focusing on our CS when in comes their Jungler (Hecarim) and I find myself in what I thought would be a bad position (I don't take flash I go teleport/ignite) so I back off with both following, Light Binding, caught them both, auto attack the near death Morg, Lucent Singularity to finish off the kill and run off laughing with a first blood in hand. No comment from the team.
Game goes on, a minute later I hit lvl 6, teleport to a ward in bot lane bush purple side, bind the enemy ADC (Ashe), full combo her to near death and let our Ez finish her off. No comment from the team.
Game goes on, I manage to shut down the Morg completely, killing her 5 different times (3 very lucky bindings, and 2 nice ganks from our Mundo). And at this point I take down my turret and start my roam. First is a teleport to top ward in river bush. Hit a max range binding on Irelia who had been winning her lane for the most part against our Malph. Malph ults in, I ult her, she dies. Now Mundo is going, "dis Lux". Next is a nice ward in their blue while I'm nearby and see Hec rather low trying to get the buff, wait for it, wait for it, Finales, he gets blue and pop, dies I get blue. Mundo "ROFL nice snipe".
Game goes on, a few dragons, a few ganks, and we find ourselves at Baron. It's going OK, we got Nashor to next to nothing, and enemy decides to pay us a visit. We're almost all of us at or below half HP so I'm kinda fearing this engage. Shoot off my Prismatic Barrier hitting everyone, bind the ADC outside of her range and Singularity the 3 others that made it inside the pit, Ult them insta-triple, we only lost our Taric and still got Baron. Mundo, "Lux wtf did you do?". My reply "Got lucky".
Anyway, game ends on a surrender vote. Mundo, "Lux used well be crazy DPS. Next time someone goes Mid with her accept it and move on." No comment from rest of team.
The fact is that Lux is seriously wicked if you play her right. She's has one of the longest ranges of all the champs and even though she's 100% skill shots (one of like 3 or 4 champs that are in the game) she's exceptionally easy to learn. She plays kind of like Morgana in that her binding is about the same, but her shield is AoE, her Ult is near instant and serious DPS if fed and her E is a better zoning tool IMO.
Her main problem is that she's mana starved, she eats MP like an alcoholic drinks. If you get a jungler that doesn't need blue, have them give it to you constantly. Whenever possible, steal enemy blue too. She's extremely squishy but because she's got good CC and extreme range she shouldn't be in melee combat range ... ever. Never find yourself in the front line as Lux, there's 0 reason to be there.
Next is as a Mid, her ability to harass the other lanes is very high. She doesn't need to be too close to the lane to use her ult effectively but it's nice to use in conjunction with teleport so you can get in lane near instantly and get a nice surprise combo off.
Combo: Q auto attack E R auto attack if still alive. Something to realize when using her R, it pops any Illumination (her passive) on the target(s) and leaves behind another. So if you find yourself in a team fight and they're nicely grouped up, try to use your E first and then pop it just as you start up your R. The burst will scare the **** out of anyone that's hit.

LoL.
Don't get offended by throatslasher. He's just a high elo person and speaks from experience, lux is a situational pick, nothing more, nothing less ^^.
Don't get me wrong, i ADORE lux and almost always get fed with her, but if you're playing against very good players, landing a full combo will be impossible.
Shes excellent vs some champions with low mobility but against mobile champions shes just horrid.
But continue carrying with her in low elo x) i know it works for me, NOBODY runs mr glyphs on mids in my elo, nobody knows how to dodge and nobody expects so much burst from an underplayed champion ^^.
Good luck !
now that's a post I can't argue with nor even able to disagree with most of it. I try not to get offended, but sometimes I just get blindsided by that kind of stuff. Always hope a good community doesn't have people like that but always find them too. *shrugs*
anyway, great reply, thx +1 for that.

Grats on winning I guess. 4 ranked games, I'm glad you can speak with authority in regards to 'any level of play'
Um .. Dont go tp ignite.. Either go Flash ignite or Flash tp
I might go Flash TP but on Lux, I never use Flash, I see no point in it. I usually never find myself in a situation where Flash will save me with her. There are obviously other champs I do use Flash with but she's just not one of them.
Now, my opinion is that Lux is a very viable champ in any level of play
Well you would be completely wrong. Also, not taking flash makes you very dumb.

I think they need to buff Lux's attack speed. Making lich bane more viable on her (to make her less skillshot dependant) and so that she can more easily farm with her passive.
Who are the other 100% SS? The only ones that come to mind are Ziggs, and Zyra.
I don't count Ezreal, because blinks aren't really skillshots imo. o:
EDIT: And I don't really count Zyra either, because that ult is impossible to miss with o.o
Well, I thought Ez was but I guess you're right about his blink since it auto-targets nearest enemy... but I guess why it could still be considered a SS is how you place yourself in the blink? Anyway, I hadn't thought of Zyra, I never could get her ult right so I can't really see her ult being "impossible" to miss with, just one of those things I guess. Ziggs was one of them I counted. Ashe could arguably be called one since her Q is just an augment to her auto-attacks the rest are skill shots. Fizz is another, though again, one of his abilities is an augment to his auto-attacks. Gragas is another, but again, has a skill which augments attacks. Graves, same as previous. Riven to some degree. Varus to some degree. And Zyra if you count her xP but that's what... 9 champs out of 100+? 3 of which are true 100% SS the other 6 have augmented auto-attacks or some other gimmick in one of their abilities which still isn't targeted but also isn't a skill shot.
uuuh, not really sure what you mean by that. I wasn't trying to prove anything either. I was just sharing my experience in a game I came out on top in. Nothing more, nothing less.
Now, my opinion is that Lux is a very viable champ in any level of play but she has her issues too, she does fall off hard if she's shut down but you could say the same about most champs.
In this game their Morg player wasn't bad, I just got lucky in a few plays and I was able to eek out a few early kills which I capitalized on by keep my advantage.
If you don't agree with me you can watch some video of Chu8 playing Lux in ranked matches and winning handily with her, repeatedly. So frankly you can't really tell me, or anyone else, that she's not viable in ranked play when someone that's consistently in the 2k+ elo range has a decent win % with her. Err... OK you could tell me but I won't agree with ya x) It is our own opinions after all ;)
In all honesty lux is an underpowered champion who needs a bugg. She is unviable in competitve or ranked play and falls off hard.
You're half wrong. There's a difference between viable picks and optimal ones. Lux is a viable pick, but not an optimal one. Because of her weaknesses (the biggest being her absurd mana costs), she isn't really a good pick in any one situation, let alone most. You can pretty much always find a more optimal AP carry to play instead.
Also she doesn't fall off any more than a regular AP carry.
Anyway the OP wasn't exactly in a high elo game so this shouldn't have made a difference. Who gives a **** if you're playing a champion that's slightly less viable than other options? Your success in lower and mid levels of play is almost always determined by your skill with the champion, not the champion selection itself. If the OP is better at Lux than any other AP, I guarantee you he'll have a better chance of winning than picking one of the mainstream APs.
Viability doesn't become a big issue until you start hitting really high levels of play, and even then those players can find ways to make even the weirdest picks work out in their favor. Maining a non-optimal champion just means you'll have to play 10% better than someone who mains an optimal champion.
This blog doesn't prove anything. Anyone can stomp player worse then them.
Just my thoughts. Pce
