"I farm till 6 all the time, unless there is an opportunity for a countergank. Shyvana's counterganks are really effective because the enemies usually go really deep and use their escapes, while shyv is really fast with great damage.
At 6 I tend to try and force some fights around mid/bot, "

Tank, perhaps combined with some AP items like rylai's crystal scepter or liandry's torment. Sunfire cape is core after spirit of the ancient golem.
