Ashe Certainly, the best lane you can meet, just play aggressive and harass her, at early game she can't do much, but care on his support and from AAs because Focus give her a decent poke. Stay behind minions to dodge her Volley,don't camp in the bush because she can easily discover you with Hawkshot and after 6 need to dodge his Enchanted Crystal Arrow(use Flash if you need it, isn't wasted). If she is winning 1vs1 (and this is very difficult) you probably die without your support, because her Frost Shots slow down you like a turtle.

Hi!!! I'm SeekerOfJustice from EU West and for my first guide i will show you my favorite champion Varus the Arrow of Retribution. If is the first time you play with Varus I hope you like this guide and learn something of useful, however... try to use it (I write very bad English... sorry)
Varus is played AD carry in bot lane or AP carry in mid lane, I prefer use him AD carry because i start with him as AD carry, but depends on your taste. In both cases he is a good caster with his ability, good CC, good poke, burst damage and Aoe abilities. In the second build i tried to show an AD Varus caster for mid or bottom play and I'm trying to improve it (tips are welcome!).

First game with Varus mid, not the best game but it's a beginning!

Innate Passive: On champion kill or assist, Varus gains 40% attack speed for 6 seconds.On minion kill, Varus gains 20% attack speed for 3 seconds
-Useful to farm/push or take some attack speed boost against enemies. With Chain of Corruption i think make Varus the best ADc in teamfight, especially late game is enhanced by the other attack speed items. Before a teamfight or an encounter against an enemy, last hit one minion it's a good idea.



Active: (First Cast): Varus starts drawing back his next shot, gradually increasing its range and damage.
(Second Cast): Varus fires, dealing physical damage, reduced by 15% per enemy hit (minimum 33%).
While preparing to shoot, Varus cannot autoattack or use abilities, and his movement speed is slowed by 20%. After 4 seconds, Piercing Arrow fails but refunds half its mana cost.

-The finisher skillshot of Varus, does lot of damage and has much range action if is fully charged, is very good also to harass. But it has some cons, slow down yourself and must be charged to do more damage, also can be easily dodge with dodging abilities like 90 Caliber Net or Arcane Shift. The trick is throw it the soon as possible or at once when the enemy changes direction while is trying to dodge it.

Passive: : Varus' basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and apply Blight for 6 seconds (stacks 3 times).
Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage equal to a percentage of the target's maximum health per stack. This damage is capped against monsters.


-At level 2 is very useful, make your last hit much easy to do and increase AA poke on enemy. Remember, is better use Piercing Arrow, Hail of Arrows and Chain of Corruption when an enemy have all 3 stack, don't think it's useless because increase a lot the power of your abilities, especially on the enemy tank and champ with lot of health.

blighted quiver



Active: Varus fires a hail of arrows that deals physical damage and desecrates the ground for 4 seconds. Desecrated Ground reduces healing effects by 50% and slows enemy movement speed.

-Very good to chase an enemy champion or a better escape, is very good to counter tanks with a lot of health regeneration like Dr. Mundo with Sadism or enemies with a lot of life steal/spell vamp like Fiddlesticks with Drain or an another Ad carry.

Final Active: Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that deals magic damage and immobilizes the first enemy champion hit for 2 seconds. The corruption then spreads towards nearby uninfected enemy champions, applying the same damage and immobilize if it reaches them. The corruption will continue to spread until there are no further unaffected targets in range.

-It's the best ultimate that Varus could has, because it's great 1vs1 especially against Draven and Quinn, in team fight it's great too because snare all nearby enemies at the first target to make your skillshots more easy to hit, help a lot the team's focus and is very good to escape in bad situation, it isn't wasted because use an ability to safe your life is more better then give a free kill at the enemy.

Abilities Combo



Combo-Harass one (pre-6)




Basically, poke with AAs the enemy AD carry 3 times, after full charge your "Q" (or your "E") an hit him. You can go in the bush, so the enemy can see you meanwhile you are charging your ability (Q).

Combo two (pre-6)




As harras one, poke 3 times with AAs, but after slow down the enemy with your "E" and easy hit him with "Q", with another 3 AAs before cast "Q" to increase the damage.

Combo three (6+)




Always poke with 3 AAs, after slow down with your "E" to be sure you can block him with your "R", unlike harass two, the stack to increase the damage of your "Q" can be safely carried out.

Combo four (6+ chase an enemy)




If you have help from other allied (AP carry, jungler, tank) and the enemy champion try to run away, block him with "R", stack 3 AAs and use "E", if your allied help you, the enemy certainly die at once, if he's still alive snipe him with "Q" (If he try 2vs1 use harass three). Don't block the support or the tank, just wasted your ultimate, block an enemy feeded, to take him down.


Teamfight Combo





When your tank open the team fight, use Chain of Corruption on enemy tank for make him useless for a few seconds(poke with AAs every second), your role in teamfight is do the max damage as possible (ATTENTION: stay behind the team, so the enemies can't focus you), "say focus the enemy carry" is not simple because he is defended from all over the enemy team, usually an assassin or a top offtank focus him, the AP carry focus the AP carry and the support help all the team, tank usually open teamfight and has the function to last the most possible meanwhile the team focus enemy carry. To do the maximum of damage stack all Blighted Quiver before cast Hail of Arrows for first to decrease healing effects on the enemy team and after a Piercing Arrow on an enemy with low health.

Items




AD Varus Core



Better boots for the AD carry, early game gives a great amount of attack speed that characterizes the AD carry.But if you go AD caster some CdR from the Ionian Boots of Lucidity isn't a bad choice.




With all the stack it's the item with best damage and life steal, an AD champion must have this item, however for Varus is very good because increase a lot the bonus AD of Piercing Arrow and Hail of Arrows.




Give a lot of damage and critical strike chance, is the only item which increases the critical strike damage and therefore it's irreplaceable, a good items early for all the AD carries ( Vayne, Lucian and Ezreal are excluded, they used to take it as 3rd or 4th item)




Very useful because its armor penetration is the higher of the other items, can be compared with The Black Cleaver, but for an Ad carry each of at least AA must do the maximum damage that the The Black Cleaver do after 5 AA. Last Whisper i more better against a tank because it penetrate a % of armor, not a number.(Example: X enemy with 300 armor: Last Whisper penetrate 105 (35%) armor, The Black Cleaver penetrate 10+75 in 5 AA (5% every AA)


Offensive items



Best item with critical strike, give a lot of attack and some movement speed, when you hurt an enemy champ/minion/monster Varus passes through it (no unit collision)

Very good item for Varus, Twitch and Teemo because their stack of Blighted Quiver, Deadly Venom and Toxic Shot are appling on the 2 close enemy (1 basic attack + 2 "bolts")

Give health, magic resistance and a lot of health regeneration, also it has a very good passive: block a single enemy spell, safe you against grab as Rocket Grab, a final with much damage as Requiem or CC spells like Event Horizon.

As a Maw of Malmortius give attack damage an magic resistance, but the active effect remove all debuffs like Cleanse, this item is very good against Zed, this champ is a nightmere for all the carries with low health, when he ult you, just block him with yours and use the active of the mercurial, the death mark will vanish.

Building



At Spawn


Take Boots of Speed+ 3 Health Potion+1 Mana Potion or Long Sword+ 2 Health Potion if you have a support as Leona or 1 Doran's Blade if you have a healing support as Soraka or Sona , but take care at money because after you need B. F. Sword, if you don't have enough money take Berserker's Greaves and Vampiric Scepter for first, but remember the B. F. Sword.


AD Carry Itemization


Early-Mid Game


Must have Vampiric Scepter for some life steal, doesn't need The Bloodthirster, at this time an Infinity Edge i more better for Varus. Before the B. F. Sword i take a Bilgewater Cutlass and after the Blade of the Ruined King but usally AD carry take a Phantom Dancer, i think no unit collision is very useful, but you can do without it.

Mid-Late Game


In this period , must take Last Whisper for incrase the damage done at the enemy who are buying armor. With the Botrk order finish the build with Runaan's Hurricane and The Bloodthirster, but a normal ADc finish The Bloodthirster and take a good defensive item as: Other defensive items is for some situation, as example: an enemy team compound of lot of AP champions with hard CC, only AD is the AD carry and he do 0/10/0, Mercurial Scimitar is the best item in this situation (remember knock back! against it mercurial is useless)


AD Caster Itemization


Early-Mid Game


Go for The Bloodthirster+ Last Whisper, I killed a caitlyn with 2 piercing arrow in one game, your spells deal a lot of damage, but remember max your Q, is very stupid max your "E" because the bonus AD of your Piercing Arrow is more high. Take Berserker's Greaves if you go ADc and Ionian Boots of Lucidity if you go mid, i usually take no critical damage and a lot of CdR, Mana and AD in mid lane, so i switch the B. F. Sword with one The Brutalizer (if you want take a Manamune, rush early the Tear of the Goddess). You can start as a AD caster and after go as normal Ad carry, it's the best build for varus now.

Mid-Late Game


After that, you can choice a lot of combination of items(with BT and LW;only for fun games!):
-Mana/CDR: Ionian Boots of Lucidity+ Manamune+ Iceborn Gauntlet+ Essence Reaver
-Crit: Berserker's Greaves+ Infinity Edge+ Trinity Force+ Phantom Dancer
-ArPen: Berserker's Greaves+ The Black Cleaver+ Youmuu's Ghostblade+ [another one]

For ranked play, go as a normal Ad carry, buy a Phantom Dancer and an Infinity Edge, for last one take a good defensive items as a Guardian Angel

Summoners Spells



Primary



To take kills, do some tricks or escape in bad situations, it's the best spell for Varus, can't be replaced.

Secondary



Against CC spells, abilities or items (especially early on), but you can take Mercurial Scimitar for the same effect at mid/late game. Actually is better then Barrier Give more health and some speed for run away. I don't think it is very useful, if you are good with Piercing Arrow the enemy can't run away, but if you aren't take it.

Team Work





Best Supports


She has much CC spells and is heavy tank, her passive Sunlight increase your damage against the enemy when she bumping on them. She's more better than Alistar, because, can't heal, but her abilities have more synergies with yours and she does more damage. REMEMBER, Leona is the carry here.

Born to be useful support for Varus, he hasn't healing abilities but his CC and Dark Passage compensate the low mobility of Varus. In teamfight, The Box slow down the enemy team, so Chain of Corruption can snare more enemies. However this support is good enough with all the Ad carries...

Very pretty strange support, her abilities poke is very strong, unlike Absolute Zero and Soul Shackles, Stranglethorns is more similar at Chain of Corruption, is casted immediately and after has secondary effect, knock up enemies, meanwhile they are snared by Chain of Corruption.

One of the strongest support in the game, Hymn of Valor give extra damage at beginning, Aria of Perseverance give lot of health, armor and magic resist, Song of Celerity help you to run away and her "R" Crescendo stun the enemies for a long time (It's really nice kill an enemy meanwhile he's dancing!)

Other good supports



The only one support how can restore mana with Infuse and also is the best healer with Astral Blessing and Wish of the game to increase a lot your sustain, she can silence the enemy with Infuse,very useful but can't tank like Alistar and Leona. From her passive and Astral Blessing you gain a lot of armor and magic resistance.

Good shield with Eye Of The Storm and very good CC. Her ult Monsoon and Howling Gale safe you many times if Janna know how to use them. The only cons is if she use Monsoon in teamfight while your Chain of Corruption is casted, no one will be snared.

Good CC, Aqua Prison+ Piercing Arrow and Tidal Wave+ Chain of Corruption become a very threatening combo. Her heal Ebb and Flow is very good and Tidecaller's Blessing give you an additional damage and slowing AA.

Lulu has a very strong poke early game with her passive Pix, Faerie Companion and Glitterlance, she hasn't any healing skills but her shield with Help, Pix! is very good and the speed boost from Whimsy is great for Varus. Also these abilities can be casted on the enemies, the first one can reveal the target for few second, and if he try do go in the brush or flash over a wall u can still snipe him with your "Q", the second ability is more better, metamorphose the enemy for few second, he can only move while you are hitting him very hard. Her skill his great in team fight for you, remove all the pressure from the enemy team on the AD carry.

He has a lot CC spells as Headbutt or Pulverize and a great heal with Triumphant Roar, also he's a good tank, the only problem is that, if Alistar knock back an enemy meanwhile you are throwing your abilities, the enemy take low damage and can easily kill you.

She give some armor at the allied with the aura of Shatter and the aura for 5 second from Radiance give some damage and ability power, good heal with Imbue and nice stun with Dazzle, in my opinion is one of the vest support of the game.

Another good combo: Piercing Arrow+ Dark Binding have much range and Soul Shackles+ Chain of Corruption block very hard the enemy team in teamfight, Black Shield is very useful at begin against Rocket Grab or other magic spells.

Insane CC and could tank all the damage he wants, and all CC tanks work with varus, maybe braum just a bit less, Unbreakable+ Stand Behind Me is perfect for safe you, actually varus is very easy to poke. The knock up and the slow down of Glacial Fissure work well with the root of Chain of Corruption.

Chain of Corruption+ Absolute Zero... BOOM!!! His ability Blood Boil give you extra attack and movement speed. Ice Blast do a lot of damage on their ADc (I like Nunu support against Ezreal) Two problems, no heal for you and his healing skill Consume steal one minion .

Play safety before level 6 and harass him from afar, if you aren't certain to make a kill. His Spinning Axe+ Blood Rush do lot of damage in few seconds, he has good mobility with Blood Rush and Stand Aside is very good to stop you. After level 6, you can block his combo of Spinning Axe with Chain of Corruption, Hail of Arrows counter the speed boost from Blood Rush and if he is low health and try to stop you with Stand Aside, can snipe him with Piercing Arrow.(against Draven is better max "E")

Easy Mid/Late




Vayne has very low health at early game,so is the better time then you can kill her, because late game kick you so bad and you can't run away because she can chase you with "Q","R" and her passive Night Hunter. She has a strong poke with Tumble and with it can easily escape from your piercing arrows (so is better max your "E"), Silver Bolts do true damage every 3 attack, don't let hit from her 3 times and DON'T GO NEAR WALLS, IF SHE CAN PUSH YOU AT WALL WHIT Condemn YOU ARE DEAD MAN (USE FLASH IF YOU HAVE IT). Especially after her level 6, she gain a lot of attack damage and movement speed with Final Hour, can easily escape with invisible Tumble and knock you back with Condemn.

Very strong AD carry, Piltover Peacemaker do lot of damage, so is better dodge it, let wasting her Headshot on minion and you have a lot of chance to win in lane, with a decent "Q" harass. With 90 Caliber Net she can easily dodge your abilities and go away or chase to kill you, but if your harass is better then her will happen only the first event. REMEMBER, DON'T GO IN HER Yordle Snap Trap ESPECIALLY IF SHE HAS A TANK SUPPORT WITH LOT OF CC LIKE Leona. Ace in the Hole is very good to finish enemies, only way to safe you from this ability is use Barrier or hope that your teammates are nice people and try to block it.

If you have a tank support this matchup become easy (especially with Leona), however Quinn has high mobility unlike Varus anytime she has good poke with Harrier, a wicked blind Blinding Assault and slown ability Vault, but you have more range AAs and abilities, so you are allowed to harass a bit. With Heightened Senses could easily find yourself, safe her from ganks or other dangers from the bushes and run away in bad situation with Vault. When she learn Tag Team she can switch with her hawk Valor, it become melee, but beware because gains a lot of movement speed and attack speed, now it can easily blind you with only "E"+"W". When she use Tag Team probably will try to come upon and kill you or run away, in the both o cases the best thing to do is block Valor with Chain of Corruption and destroy its with your combo.

Well, it isn't very easy but you're probably one of the best counter for Jinx, the only problem of this champ is her Switcheroo!, her rocket launcher has a lot of range, poke her with your Q and stay behind the minion to dodge her Zap!, beware from her Flame Chompers!, it doesn't stun, but you are snared for some seconds and she can kill you easily with her combo Zap!+fishbone's and pow pow's AA+ Super Mega Death Rocket!

In few words, dodge the Noxian Corrosive Charge all the time and you win the lane certainly, because with his "E"+"Q" combo he deal lot of damage and reduce yours with his passive Zaun-Touched Bolt Augmenter. Urgot is very strong and very different from the other AD carries but Varus is my favorite counter pick for him. In teamfight his ultimate Hyper-Kinetic Position Reverser can put you in a very bad situation, don't let him use it on you, Terror Capacitor give him a small shield but is very good to chase and slow down you.

Like Draven, after 6 play safety, because MF is the best ADc early game, don't stay behind minion, because become easy targets for her Double Up. She gains a lot of mobility with Strut and slow you down with Make it Rain, so is very difficult run away from her, To stop her passive the best thing is harass her from afar with Hail of Arrows(max "E" because is very difficult hit her with your "Q"). Impure Shots and Hail of Arrows reduce healing effect by 50%, breaking even by both the parties. After level 6 you can block her with Chain of Corruption to stop her passive and use your combo to kill her, beware of her ultimate Bullet Time, because do lot of damage in a wide area ( Barrier and Flash are very good against it)

This match depending mostly on ezreal skills and on the supports, he has a very good mobility, can dodge easily your abilities with Arcane Shift (so is better max your "E"), can poke you from away with Mystic Shot. Trueshot Barrage can be used to kill from the distance or 1vs1, in both cases the best thing to do is dodge it with Flash, Essence Flux is only used to increase the stack of Rising Spell Force, but if Ezreal is AP this ability do a lot of damage. ( Essence Reaver He's back...)

This annoying champion doesn't do burst damage pre 6, so it harass you with AAs poke and Venom Cask to use is Contaminate, it do a plenty of true damage so in this lane you must farm and harass the most possible. Ambush is used to do ambushes (obviously), it become invisible for a few second and approaching slowly to you, after be returned visible it gain some attack speed and harass you with AAs, else Ambush can be used to get away in bad situation, but you can try to snipe its with Piercing Arrow. Before level 6 his Rat-Ta-Tat-Tat give its a lot of attack range, attack damage and its AAs become a little Piercing Arrows, the only way to win this lane is to have a good tank support with good CC Thresh or Leona are the best choices. A good thing? buy a Vision Ward.

You are very disadvantaged in this match up, early game he has low range abilities, Phosphorus Bomb do a good damage though it do magic damage and have bonus on AP, Valkyrie is like Arcane Shift but moves much farther, Gatling Gun give some burst damage 1vs1 and burn your armor very well. But the real problem will come after 6 and when he rush a Trinity Force, all of his abilities do more damage, with Missile Barrage can poke you from far away and Hextech Shrapnel Shells give him a bonus of true damage in his AAs. Probably the best support you can have is Janna, especially if he has Leona has a support, they are a very good combo.

Like Tristana, it is more strong late game and is much more similar like Varus, it hasn't escape skills, but one ability than slow Void Ooze (like Varus). 1vs1 late you can't win if you are not get feed, Caustic Spittle active reduce armor, passive give its a lot of attack speed, Bio-Arcane Barrage give a lot of attack range to harass and additional magic damage, if you try to run away it slow down you with Void Ooze and after level 6 kill from the distance with Living Artillery. The best thing to do is remained within range of this ability, If Kog'Maw spam with Living Artillery, try to dodge all, it waste a lot of mana and after call the jungler, you can't win this lane with a common support, the maximum you can get is a draw, if Kog'Maw isn't bad. The best support in this match up is certainly Thresh.

Play safety, only way, try to dodge her Boomerang Blades because do lot of damage, DON'T HARASS HER WITH ABILITIES, IF SHE IS GOOD SIVIR SHE USE HER Spell Shield TO COUNTER ALL OF YOUR SKILLSHOTS AN GAIN MORE MANA FOR SPAM WITH Boomerang Blade, Ricochet is used only to increase the damage of 3 of her AA and some extra attack speed after-6. After level 6 she gain a lot of mobility with Fleet of Foot combined with On The Hunt can easily chase and kill you, the only way to win this game is call the jungler or have a very good support, Alistar or Soraka are the best option.

The lane more difficult that you can find, without the right support. Graves has awesome mobility and he can make you miss your skillshots with Smoke Screen or dodge them with Quickdraw, but usually use Quickdraw combined with Buckshot and some AAs to harass you. After level 6, just use "E"+"Q"+"R" to take away half or more of your health need to dodge it ( Flash), also he gain some armor from True Grit and become impossible 1vs1. Varus is an AD carry that is particularly strong Mid/Late game, Tristana and Kog'Maw are more strong in this phase than him. Then only way to kill them is do it early game, Tristana have Rocket Jump to escape, so is very difficult to kill. Remember, don't stay near minion with low health, she has decent AOE poke with Explosive Shot passive when last hit your minion, any time she try to poke you with Explosive Shot active, try to waste it on minion. After level 6 she try to combo "W"+"R" and to throw you under her tower or on her team, use Flash if you can to knock back in the other direction. Late Game, 703 attack range Draw a Bead + 90% attack speed for 7 seconds Rapid Fire "good bye world", you must win the game as soon as possible. The best supports in this lane are Thresh or Leona, the first one especially if she had Blitzcrank support ( Rocket Grab+ Buster Shot= Welcome to the enemy base!)

Every time you meet another enemy with your champion, the winner is (obviously) the player with more skill and luck (and better team mates). Even the support and the jungler can be countered, so if you have Janna and the other varus has Leona, the game become very interesting, well... the other varus has a very good support to him, their abilities combined have a plenty of CC, but the particular of Janna is that she counter Leona so you have however a good chance to win the lane, but remember, depending on the the skills of your support (and on you, never say: "Noob support", probably the enemies are good players or they do a good team play, or is your fault... noob...)

Gameplay



Early game


Just farm, the only thing you must do, the enemy AD carry can do more kill than you but if he has less CS you still have a chance to win mid/late game. If you can do one kill, do it, but don't risk it, is more better survive and farm, trust me, as a AD carry you can do all kills later. Against Leona, Thresh or Blitzcrank stay away from them, with an AD carry as Draven, Miss Fortune or Graves they can easily dive you without die, TAKE THE DISTANCE. If you need it call the jungler, it's his job, he will gladly.


Mid Game


There are two possible situations:
- You have lost your tower
- The enemies have lost their turret

In the first situation, help your team, don't try to destroy the other bottom turret, if you lost another turret, the enemy team have 2 tower and lot of gold, if you help your mid lane and destroy their turret both of two have 1 tower and aren't advantaged. Also if you try to destroy their bot tower you can be easily ganked, and die because Varus is very slow champ.
In the second situation, defend your turret a bit and help the team, a good thing is call the jungler and do the drake, Varus is the best ADc to do dragon and baron nashor with his combo.


Late game


Push, push and push, go in teamfight and do all kill as possible, if your team lose the teamfight, play defensive, try to win one under turret and at the right moment push mid to win. Must have red buff, can help you very well in teamfight and, if you can, do baron nashor with all the team (go to ability sequence: teamfight combo for more information)
