I feel like all these lists are overcomplicating things.

What you need is common sense, knowledge, experience and the right attitude.

Common sense is really not all that common. Just look around =)

Knowledge is crucial. Takes a lot of time and effort to collect it. That is why it is not done by everyone. I think it is safe to say that if you are at MOBAfire you are seeking knowledge. Good first step.

Experience is that thing you learn right after you needed it! Really, though, there is not substitute for experience. You eventually have to learn to apply the knowledge and playing is the only way.

Right attitude is so critical and 100% on you to maintain it! Most nights I find a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon is very helpful with this! =)

Okay so here is the thing. At the champion select look up at least a few member of your team on op.gg and you can immediately see how bad or eventually good they are. If you see there is a good chance for a defeat just pick a support who can carry later on such as Karma, Morgana, Brand, Vel'Koz or an absolutely non-conventional Rengar or AP Miss Fortune. But you can also pick a support who can easily win the game for your team with it's split pushing abilities like AD Malzahar.

And when they call you a troll or noob you just respond like this: you can thank me later.

That sounds like good advice. I'll give it a shot!

Don't take AD Malz as a support for the love of Blow'Gath.

Actually I don't like Malz... But going into a game and planning on that route with Morgana is something I like. Right now I will switch to that plan mid game on Morgana but I will often already have a my first support item and it delays me when I have to switch to offense.

Don't bother evolving sightstone or finishing Frost Queen's Claim, the passive is not worth the money wasted on it. I agree that it can help you climb if you go full ap with a support like Morgana/ Karma/ Lulu/ Vel'Koz/ Brand. Do not bother trying to rush something like a Rabadon unless you're really fed, instead try going for a morello (mana regen) and magic penetration (liandry/void staff)
Thank you Tsuki for the sig!

There's no reason to play AD Malzahar support, ever. Picking unconventional **** in ranked will, nine times out of ten, just piss off your allies and it won't win you the game. There's no reason to play Malzahar support when things like Zyra and Vel'Koz exist. Yes, he has a suppress, but it's dangerous to use in a trade against any support with hard CC at a longer range given that it basically roots you for its duration and makes you a really easy target.

I play Nid as support in Normals and people would always ***** about it. So I figured that it would be an issue in Ranked. But maybe I should just go with the supports with the least downside with a terrible ADC.
