I'm seeing a lot of guides labelled high elo by the system only to find out the player is a low plat or gold player. Like I'm not trying to be an ******* or anything but is a gold player really considered high elo? Shouldn't high elo be at least diamond?

Just my 0.02 but I think labelling high elo on gold player guides is misleading to lower elo players because gold is mid elo.

I think the somewhat public opinion is that high elo is plat-diamond but diamond is usually the one that gets mentioned so let's go with diamond V. Those who have been in diamond V however, know how garbage the elo actually is (no offense to anyone in dia V atm) so I think the "real" high elo is up from diamond 3, for me it's diamond 2 and up.

The high elo badge here in mobafire is gold V which is pretty low in my opinion. I'd agree on platinum V but in the other hand, gold V can be seen as "high elo" for those who are learning the game. Gold V players do make good guides and I don't see a problem with promoting them as high elo guides because gold V is still quite the achievement for big part of the league community.

Can confirm - D5 = Dumpster 5;

I would settle for having a high ELO guide badges given out to plat+ guides; Most diamond players are in like, the top 1 percentile of players, so while it'd certainly give more credibility to the high ELO guides, i think that it'd make it too exclusive. Plat serves as a desirable medium

Yeah this discussions been had before with the Vets and mods when deciding to change the rank display system. I remember vouching for Plat ~ Diamond being considered high elo considering how there was a relative abundance of lower elo players on this site. Forgot what happened at the end of the discussion though.

In my personal opinion though, "high elo," at least in terms with guide-writing sites, should be above d3 or d2, especially having experienced the horrors of high plat / low dia NA, since only until then do you really have knowledge of most of the game mechanics down.

It's definitely really hard to generalize the ranks, especially since you can cheese your way up without having to know **** about the game.

Leaving gold as high elo is perfectly fine considering the amount of players ranked gold or lower and not to mention pre 30's. I mean personally I prefer looking at guides written by people who are at least plat V or higher since then it can apply to my own games, but how many people who actively read and need guides are plat or higher? 10% of the entire playerbase?

"High elo" is subjective. If something works in silver, then let silver players do it. When it stops working as well for them they can look at a higher ranked alternative :p

It's easy for people above gold elo to diss gold itself as "high elo". There's a lot less players gold+ than there is players who are bellow gold.

I also believe the criteria is based on Riot's prize attribution: they reward Gold players and Mobafire does the same.

I think people measure a player's level always around their own elo (bellow = sux, above = is good) so it's easy to be diamond 2 and be like "wat but all others sux" and forget diamond 2 is actually an elite few. Disregarding other people's guides based on that when you can clearly see the elo of the guide writer... eh.
Thank you Tsuki for the sig!

My standard for setting "high elo" as around mid to high diamond is based on game knowledge required to reach such a level. At a certain point your mechanics just won't carry you through - you'll need to learn how the game works, and I feel that's exactly what mid diamond+ is. League of Legends is a very knowledge-heavy game that only gets deeper and more complex the better you get at it, but the problem with many guide writers is that they don't necessarily understand the concepts, thus promoting material that may be presented incorrectly when interpreted by a player of higher understanding, and the problem lies at lower skilled players following such beliefs, essentially being misguided into wrong ideas and concepts.

The "high elo" standard on MF is set to let certain guides have a more professional and trustworthy aspect to them, and I find that extremely misleading if you place it on players who may not necessarily understand the game as well. Differentiating people who do understand the game more than others is hard already with no benchmark or standard for people to follow, and elo may not necessarily represent one's knowledge, but it's always better to be more consistent with promoting correct information than to recognize more players in my opinion.

And following the Riot standards on rewards doesn't actually make sense because Riot rewards are for achievements while MF's is for setting benchmarks for better or correct information.

This

Have you noticed that all people saying that diamond is the only high elo are actually people that have been/are diamond? It is one of the reasons I like disranked:

If you are silver: Gold players: Lol silver elo is so bad, you need to be at least gold to understand the game son
If you are gold: Platinum players: Lol gold is so bad, you need to be at least platinum to understand the game son
If you are platinum: Diamond 5 players: Lol platinum so bad, you need to be at least diamond 5 to understand the game son

However, as we are talking about author credibility here, I just want to say that gold people have written a bunch of good guides. Sometimes the gold person has just more writing quality or actually is better with building champions than a platinum player (whereas the platinum player is better in game for example).

I think if people have the opportunity, they will always still look for the platinum/diamond/master guides. It is just that if all of those aren't available you also have the elo that is slightly better than the average player. Therefore I see no reason to give goldplayers a fancy border or whatever.

What DOES bother me though is that the border (when opening my profile) ruins my amazing bee pun, but thats another story :3
