My family always has really late dinners. My family generally has dinner around 8 or 9pm. Every other Australian family I know tends to have it around 5pm.

I generally eat with my parents after getting back home right after school (either 1 pm or 4 pm). In the evening we generally don't eat any hearty dishes yet we do it eat bread and stuff together. As I spend most of the time in my room I suppose my parents to be glad about seeing me at dinner time.

I'm from Finland and I just eat whenever I'm hungry and I don't quite get the reason why you should assemble together and eat a dinner together.
