Supports do too much.

Call me old fashioned, but when I began playing this game back when Nocturne was released, all supports did was ward. They would be lucky to be able to buy an item or two because all could afford were more wards. It was a nice time and there was balance between the roles.
The problem now is that supports simply do too much. Too often at the end of a game, Zyra support did the most damage on her team, if not in the entire game. From the beginning lane begins, you have to be worried about getting hit by the support because they do too much damage. This is similar to support Annie, or support Vel-Koz. People simply take a mid laner bottom and do massive amounts of damage.
I don't know about the rest of you, but the way I see it, supprots should be put back into their place. If they want to do damage, take Xin Zhao or Jarvan bot lane. No support should be doing the most damage on the team, or even second/third most. They should be there to CC, place wards, and be tanky, but not do damage.
Thanks to jhoijhoi for the awesome PsiGuard-loving sig!

I agree, as a support main since season 1 I miss the days when I would just buy philo stone and heart of gold and then nothing but wards and oracle's elixir. kids these days try and be so damn fancy and build damage and tanky stats, back and my day we stacked 13 wards and we placed them on the map for fun
Thanks for the Signature MissMaw!

I don't see how this is a problem other than you being a closed-minded individual taking select personal cases and making a generalization based off of a small, biased sample of data. You blame others taking advantage of a "broken mechanic" in the game, when really you just suck and they (the AP support) is better than you. A skilled player could play almost any champion in any role and stomp the living balls out of you. This doesn't mean that whatever champion/role combination is OP, it means the skill gap between you is so much that meta doesn't apply anymore. Don't try to "fix" the game to accommodate your mediocrity which you falsely identify as being "good" when you reached diamond, because frankly, 99% of players are borderline autistic, and for that person who stomped you with support Zyra, so are you.

I liked being able to do most of the warding myself, buying Oracle's Elixir, and not relying on random strangers who forget to get Farsight Alteration and Oracle Lens nine times out of ten to have the best possible vision control, but I also like that I have more choices in other situations now.

I also disagree. In fact, I think Riot is trying to take good strides away from the idea that "playing a role means that you're required to do X and you're not allowed to do Y." That fact that you're upset that a support can possibly do the most damage on a team really means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Honestly if the only thing that supports were limited to was warding, there wouldn't be a need for Riot to even release more support champions. Actually, if we were to continue along with your narrow-minded way of subjecting roles to performing ONLY doing specific actions, then we would really only need 5 champions in the entire game.

If whatever you do that helps your team while you don't have smite and you're not farming a lane, that, makes you the support. It all depends on how you play the support role. Sometimes your team needs damage, sometimes your team needs CC or someone tanky. Supporting has changed and it's not just setting down twenty three thousands of wards mindlessly: now you have to place them correctly because you can only place 3 (4 if counting your Pink Ward), and the most important part is helping out your dumbass team to win even if they suck ****. That Zyra carried the **** out of them, but Zyra could have been a Janna and their ADC would have carried them, or maybe they just lacked damage, which Zyra supportively provided them. Also, damage supports are the worst **** in the world if you fall behind, which is why peelers like Janna are so good: if the enemy Kha'Zix is 10/0 and botlane is 0/0/0 on both sides, you have more chances of winning the game as Janna than as Zyra, because K6 vs an ADC and Zyra gets an easy double, while vs Janna he can't really reach the ADC (you can cancel his jump, slow him, disengage him with your ultimate, destroy his invisibility with a Pink Ward, etc), who can focus him and get the kill himself.

Edit: Actually, there's something I agree with you that you didn't say but I can assume: **** those stupid midlaners going botlane as "supports" with Doran's Ring. f*** em right in the a***
