Why are kills still weighed more than assists on other roles though? That's so dumb, getting 3 out of 5 kills in a 5 for 0 team-fight doesn't make you any more skilled than getting 0 out of 5 kills in a 5 for 0 team-fight, I shouldn't have to be going out of my way to try and secure kills for myself no matter what role I am just to try and get a higher grade.

It's probably used as an indirect way to measure kill contribution. IMO it's a terrible way to do it, but it might be better than making kills and assist equally valuable. At least they stopped doing it for support, so... "baby steps", I guess.

They already have the death recap system. I am willing to believe that the actual values in the background are correct and it is only the visualisation that sucks(unless they made it more useful since I quit playing), so why not use that data? it shouldn't matter who made the killing blow.

It's probably both though. It probably has lots of bugs when calculating the contribution on top of the visualization ones (notice that some of these were fixed, while others were left untouched because it was "too much work for too little gain").

I also think coming up with a "kill contribution into score" algorythm is not as simple as we're making it sound. You'd have to weigh different abilities and how much that means for each champion with their current build, not to mention non-damaging abilities that also contribute to a kill. It might even have more complications than the current system has (I still think it's terrible tho).
