I only read the first few paragraphs since I don't want to embed knowledge that's outdated, but you seem like you knew what you were talking about. Rebuild it from the ground up, please. :)
It'd be great if you consider my points when developing the guide further more, so people are not scared away from this extremely useful champion;
From what I've played in my current tier (Diamond III), I can safely say that Ivern is an extremely strong champion in terms of utility in late game, and combined with both Rylai's Crystal Scepter & Locket of the Iron Solari, he can give massive shields later in the game. I was capable of nullifying most of a Veigar's min-45 damage from my ad carry which had a pure-damage build (reaching about 1110 AP)
Having a good communication with your team helps you a lot early in the game, as people will tend to counter-jungle by stealing your buffs because they suppose that you already did theirs, which ends almost always in an early first blood in favor of your team if your support wards properly.
His "Brushmaker" is also extremely useful when counter-ganking, so I would say that Ivern focuses mostly in map control in a defensive form (being Rek'Sai an example of an aggressive one) early in the game (counterganking, jungle control, ward control, etc) and in my opinion it is very important to get "Sweeping Lens" and "Boots of Mobility" as soon as you can (not before "Stalker's Blade" though). Being aware of the enemy jungler is essential and will help your team tremendously.
Sincerely, Blaze it Ivern One Love
For the next item i see obs jungle item get tank or ap depending on team comp and damage, and either trakers knife for vision or stalkers blade for catchup.
Boots always ionian boots of lucidity although i see why some might do better than others, again choose this based on team.
I probably just repeated what other people said haha (sorry) but if you want to check some of these players profiles out feel free.
Diamond - (One of the highest mastery points and has a 59% win rate on him) http://lolprofile.net/summoner/euw/0ne%20tr1ck%20pony
Challenger - (Has not played the champion to much but is challenger (most generic thing i could say :P) so i think his imput should still be taken into consideration especially for a solo queue ivern) http://lolprofile.net/summoner/na/Imaqtpie#
Anyways, I had to upvote your guide because I was struggling with this guys, failing every game. I was sure I was playing him poorly. I was building the right items, just not in the right order.
My problem wasn't the build, but the gameplay. I kept trying to be a damage-dealing champion. I hadn't realized he's focused on a supporting role. First game after reading this: Got an S+.
I had to log-in after so long just to upvote you. Thanks a lot!
P.S.: Still reading this through, by the way. I just read the introduction stuff and that was the result.
P.S.2: The mastery section, where it says "It also pairs well with the Tier 4 mastery Perseverance" is linking Garen's passive and not the mastery.
That's such a huge compliment, thanks so much!
From the moment his kit was revealed I knew he'd be a bit difficult for people to get an immediate handle on, and thus, the intent to create an in-depth guide was born. :)
Also thanks for the notes on the guide! I'll get around to fixing that up shortly.
Happy jungling!
:)
Shaco - number one counter for early denying in jungles, putting boxes in your bushes for vision, dash to evade skillshot/shield proc and of course, ult that can deny your q and put it on cd, can use active inside your own bushes to kite and so much more.
Lee Sin - similiar to Shaco. Biggest problem is how well he controls early game over whole map while you need to spend time with seeds if you want to stay relevant.
Sion - can knock your daisy back into your team. One insta cast renders your ult useless or almost useless.
Rengar - as much as propelling rengar into enemies sounds fun, enemy team picking rengar makes w casts suicidal.
Blitzcrank/Thresh - Bush may obscure theyr vision but sure as hell isn't Yasuo's windwall. Then again, it's really situational.
Tibbers - seeing tibbers fight daisy in river is like watching godzilla movie. AI is bad. 10/10 would repeat
I'm hoping to get this aspect of the guide started tomorrow night. I've been working away at multiple item paths for different types of Ivern builds, and messing around with his core items. Champion matchup experience is much appreciated from anyone who's willing to share.
Happy jungling!
I've found that Daisy usually wins a fight against Tibbers, provided that you can Triggerseed the impact damage.
I've found that Nidalee and Elise are also good counters to Ivern. I wouldn't say they are as hard as Lee Sin and Shaco, but their early kill pressure might be hard for Ivern to match against a skilled player. Kha'Zix is also fairly hard to play against in theory, although I haven't played against one yet to determine how hard the matchup feels. I have, however, faced a really good Xin Zhao, and that matchup was definitely in his favor, as his early dueling power was hard to match when he was able to countergank.
I think Poppy belongs near the middle of Ivern's matchups. She's not hard in the early game but she messes you up when counterganking or in teamfights. Ivern can counterjungle her fairly easily and has a bit more early gank pressure, but Poppy is better at dueling than Ivern is. Her kit also counters a lot of Ivern's kit. Her W will knock you up if you try to dash in with your Q, and she can ult you and Daisy out of a fight with her own ult. She can match your peel and damage pretty well, and has her own powerful shield.
As for easy matchups, I'd say Udyr and Kindred. It can be difficult for Udyr to get into auto attack range given your slew of peeling abilities, especially if you have Daisy up. Its also fairly easy for you to deny Kindred their stacks and keep them behind. Fiddlesticks also isn't a hard matchup in theory, as your abilities can shut down his ult pretty well, but this is another one I still have to test out.
I'd really love to see a matchup section, as no guide feels complete without one.
