Wondering at the reason that these are connected across ranked and normal queue...

A rioter made a really good analogy in a Dev talks episide, but I can't find the link upon brief search. At one end of the spectrum, you can wait for very long queue times and get very balanced matchmade games, and on the other end of the spectrum, you can have very fast queue times with likely very imbalanced teams.

Autofill gives Riot a middle ground in choosing between the two spectra

I think I remember reading that. It makes sense. I am even mostly okay for faster queue times.

And derp, I realize that I didn't ask about what I was actually trying to ask

My actual question was why Autofill Protected carries over between ranked and normal queue? (sorry for the confusion/misspeaking).

That should give less incentive to play normals assuming you are serious about ranked (hey this guarantees that I won't get a position that I don't want, eh, and I have to burn that to play a normal with my friends...).

It's probably because Riot wanted to avoid getting flamed by people, after they get autofilled back to back, which sort of makes sense. (Or it's just an oversight by Riot, which would not surprise me at all)

As for it making normals less appealing, well, if the idea of burning your autofill protection on a normal is something you even take into account, you probably already have little to no interest in playing normals, so it's probably not turning that many people away from them. (Also, you'd have value playing with your friends fairly little, if you even consider losing autofill protection vs not playing with your friends)

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

The point about back to back autofill makes some sense as does potential oversight by Riot.

>You probably already have little to no interest in play normals

That would fit my profile.
