Did you use any of the tools on the comment box (that auto-generate BBcode)? That's the only bug I know of that can wipe the contents of a comment.
I had something like this happen to me a number of years ago so I added the lazarus addon which backs up anything you type in a text box. Or you could get into the habit of copying anything you want to submit to your clipboard in case something goes wrong. Either one works.
If you have any other information that you think would help, let us know. I assume you're using Chrome.

I did it with my thread about nationalism I think. Also, no mentions were used.
Also, while I have your attentions, using mentions on a Microsoft Surface still has it "snapped" all the way to the left of the screen. The names show up all the way now, but its just ugly.
