I'm looking for a Garen guide that is up to date, but it looks like there's none.
  • The guide with the best votes, "Garen can carry" is full of outdated stuff, including the title of the first section: "Introduction: who is Garen? Patch 6.22? Season 7?" That doesn't sound very fresh.
  • The next one is listed as updated for season 7, but it talks about the "new items" introduced in patch... 5.16!
  • The title of Garen - Climbing in Season 7 (Post Patch 7.9) sounds like it should be updated, but the last time somebody commented on the guide was 2015. After two years the author still hasn't bothered answering any of the comments, so it's not surprising that nobody has commented again.
  • There's even one guide called [G]TheDankEngine[Patch 6.11] which, in spite of its title, is still listed as fresh!

These are just some examples. There are many more. Why are all these guides listed as "Seson 7" or even "Fresh"?

Just by having a quick look, I can see that the very 1st guide you've complained about is actually updated (includes Gargoyle Stoneplate, so it can't possibly be too old). Just to clear up some confusion, a guide doesn't have to get updated from top to bottom every patch/season to be considered fresh/updated, and in most cases, unless a champion gets reworked/significantly changed, majority information stays about the same throughout the patches/seasons, so the only thing that really needs to be updated is minor details and new items, which is what the 1st guide has done.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

The first guide I mentioned calls "new" all the changes made in patch 5.16, which was realeased two years ago. It talks about Stealth wards, which no longer exist. The list goes on. That definitely doesn't sound very updated. SOME of the subsections in that guide have been updated, certainly, but I wonder if a half outdated guide is any better than a completely outdated guide. At least with the completely outdated one you know what to expect.

With a partially outdated guide, the fact that you see updated stuff here and there, like mentions of the Gargoyle Stoneplate, gives you the wrong perception that everything in the guide is updated, which is far worse than knowing in advance that the guide is outdated. My Garen has been killed dozens of times because I tried early trades following the advice in that guide: "Trading is simple, but I would recommend you do not trade seriously until you unlocked your Courage at level 3". I guess that applies to a very, very old Garen. If you try to trade "seriously" with Garen at level 3, almost any enemy will destroy you.

Apart from that, of course, the issue remains with the other three guides I mentioned (and probably dozens of others). Those three seem to be totally outdated, although the possibility certainly exists that the authors have included an updated section in the middle of all the other outdated stuff.

From my understanding, the tagging of a guide as "Fresh" has nothing to do with changes to the actual information provided in the body of the guide. It just has to do with whether the author has republished the guide after the last patch was released.

A guide author can simply Edit->Publish their guide after a patch is released and it will automatically be tagged as "Fresh", regardless of whether they update the actual info within the guide.

Hope this helps.

Hey there.

As Swuft mentioned, the Freshness filter is automated based on the date the guide was last updated. This can sometimes result in "Fresh" guides that still have some outdated content in them, or at least some wording that feels a little off since it wasn't written recently.

We don't expect guide authors to rewrite every part of the guide in every update, but we still expect that guides updated to be Fresh should for the most part actually be up to date. Simply republishing to get the Fresh label without changing anything is against site rules.

There are a ton of guides to keep track of -- way too many to moderate realistically -- so we rely on reports on exceptionally outdated guides to know when we need to step in.

If you feel a guide is exceptionally out of date and is basically posing as an updated guide, feel free to use the Report system and provide details about what's outdated. Then an admin or moderator will take a look and possibly archive the guide until it's up to date.

Hope that clears things up. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks to Jovy for the sig!

Yeah, that's what I thought. Unfortunately, it looks like there are lots of guide authors doing that regularly.

Thanks. Will do that. Hope others do the same and we manage to separate updated guides from outdated ones.
