He doesn't need hydra in any shape or form to quickly clear waves. His Q + W are AoE and can easily clear both the front and back line (infact with about 100 AD in items your W one shots the back line at rank 5).
As for actually split pushing, a jungler shouldn't really be away from the objectives. Say you're split pushing bot at 26 minutes. The enemy team can very easily group and do baron, without you (the smite) your team simply will have to give it up (unless they get lucky). If the objectives are down then you should be looking to pick off a squishy target, not to duel in a split push. Champions like Fiora/Jax can easily out duel you in a 1v1.
You simply shouldn't be split pushing very often (sometimes it's a good call, but more often than not as Kayn it isn't). And as I said about hydra, you REALLY do not need it to kill camps OR minions. Ever
