So, I feel sort of stupid for asking this, but what defines whether or not someone can be an adc? Obviously, having a ranged attack is pretty important, and I recognize that the passives on some champions (see Kog'Maw), make them automatically an adc candidate. But LeBlanc has great ad scaling, and Orianna has that on-hit passive, so why can't I just build Guinsoo's Rageblade, Nashor's Tooth, and Hextech Gunblade and take them botlane? I haven't had the guts to try this kind of thing, but I'm guessing it would fail. What am I missing about the core of being an ADC?

An ADC is defined by a combination of some of the following:

* Medium/Long auto-attack range;
* An auto-attack booster of some sort (think Jinx's Switcheroo! or Vayne's Silver Bolts);
* An ability to kite/poke other champions;

LeBlanc's AD scaling means very little, since she can't rely on any other of her abilities to deal damage, therefore wasting a good chunk of her kit. Same deal for Orianna. It can work, and sometimes will, but not against someone who knows what they're doing. Regular ADCs will out-scale them and mop the floor with their remains.
