Sorry but i main Rammus and i disagree with alot of your decision. Clarity being the most obvious. I clear the jungle in 3:45 without smite and i dont even use my 5 hp pots (i should write a guide on it someday) and i never miss mana. After the first clear, i even offer mid to come steal my blue to help them.

Leveling ability is also arguable =s. In most game, people wont target you, and if they do they are dead anyway. So after 2 pts in W for jungling, as soon as you reach lvl 4 start maxing Taunt (it is the best CC in the game - it's a 3 sec silence that make ppl follow/attack you). W-Q-W for jungling, and R>E>Q>W after.

CD reduc glyph is so-so. There's worst but there's better.

Buying Dodge boots, without dodge mastery/ seals, just fr the purpose of ganking is also a poor choice.
When you finish the first jungle @ around 4 min, you'll have around 550 gold, just enough to buy those boots and nothing else. I'll rather buy normal boots, a ward and either save my money or buy 1-2 health pot to keep jungling safe. For ganks running it with powerball(speedboost-stun-slow), Red buff and taunt is a cc combo all junglers dream of at lvl 4.

It's your play style and i respect it. If it works for you thats great, but i dont think people coming here looking for a guide should follow this.

Ok, I just went to your jungle build and tried it out and I have a few things I would like to say. First, the rune set up is really really under-optimized. You are wasting good bonuses by having secondary armor runes, which doesn't even buff your armor by much at all. In addition, your rune set up is way too focused on jungling and not enough on mid and late game. You are not looking at the big picture when considering your rune set up. Second, in order to have ur build sucessfully tank a half competent team, you have to farm/gank like a god to get the main tank items after philosopher's stone and HoG (it's getting nerfed to hell next patch, no armor bonuses anymore). Otherwise, you will be wiped out instantly by anyone with ArPen and Magic Pen runes. Third, jungling without smite is not smart... I know people say its fine, but I dont know about you, when I jungle with good counter junglers like Shaco, WW, Eve, and Olaf, I will always go into ur jungle and check for red, since you dont have smite, good luck trying to prevent me from stealing ur red, which I have done countless times as Shaco (not to mention some good kills on low health Rammus at red). In addition, like Jebus pointed out, the main function of Smite is for baron/dragon, which can be easily stolen without smite. I actually have done that a couple of times on Shaco, who is the master objective stealer. According to you jungling with or without smite is the same speed, but the safety of having smite outweighs having fortify, which is pretty much useless late game. Third, getting Philosopher's stone is just not smart on Rammus. The only benefit it gives is mana regen for the cost of 800g. I rather just steal their blue or use my mana more wisely than buy such an item. There is a reason epic junglers like Kobe24 of CLG doesn't even bother with mana regen items on Rammus, as seen in the last 2 games of the ESL finals in which he raped face with jungle Rammus. I didnt downvote your guide because everyone has their opinions and it could work for some people, however, i dont know why you downvoted my jungling style considering its not even created by me =/ almost all high elo players use this style. If you dont believe me go check out CLG vs. SoloMid in the last ESL finals.

I do agree with what you said about the use of clarity, as I used it before for later in the game to stay on the map longer to push towers and not having to recall after every close teamfight. But now, as you can see from my earlier comments, that I use ghost as my summoner spell instead of clarity. As for dodge runes, I find those a waste of money and space as they give u like a 5% dodge or something like that? I don't know, 5% even with dodge boots isn't that appealing to spend IP and 9 slots on. I also agree with ur ability leveling order as I now also level taunt above everything else after 2 points in DBC. However, I would like to see you have a video of ur jungling set up/runes/masteries/routes without smite, in under 3:45 using less than 5 pots. Because if you can do that, that means you can jungle better than Kobe24 (he jungled Rammus in the last 2 games of the ESL finals) and Stonewall. To be honest I dont even think thats even possible without nearly all armor and health runes, which is stupid and not optimal. And now with HoG getting nerfed to hell, its not even worth getting it on Rammus anymore. Anyway, I would love to see ur jungling video because if thats possible I would love to adopt ur jungling style.

I like the jungling guide and the build is good. I like using the more unusual junglers because people often don't know how to react as well.

In the past few days I really paid attention to my mana use and realized that you are right. As it stands right now I have flat armor runes in the Marks and Seals sections. And I have been devoting the Glyphs to lvl based Magic resist. And Quints have been used for ability cooldown. I know these may not be the primary placement but it seems the only way I can get through the jungle, I'd like to be able to do a complete round of jungling before having to return to base but I can not always get through the golems. Like we can see in the video and your build health may be the best answer, the trade off i dont like is buying flat health rather than health that levels. Mana has not been much of a problem with me actually. I use flash (maybe cause I'm still a lvl 27 noob, lol). Instead of getting sunfire i tend to go for Benshee's and Frozen heart which give me enough mana.

I see from your last comment that you're under level 29. In order to jungle Rammus effectively you basically have to be level 29 at least due to the fact that you need at least 4 points in the exp part of the Utility tree and the Defense tree filled if you dont want to use Flat Quint runes (which are so nerfed its not even worth spending IP on anymore...). After you reach level 29+ jungling Rammus will be a breeze, the only obstacle is you will very vulnerable to ganks, as he is a control and ganking jungler, not an invasive type. Another thing, after reaching level 29+ of course, Armor Seals with cloth armor will give you 61 armor, which is a lot with DBC so you can switch your marks to Magic Pen. Also switch you can switch glyphs to CDR as they are one of the best choices for Glyphs (5.85% CDR). As for you Quints you can bascially get whatever you feel you need, however try not to get health Quints as they as too nerfed to make a difference. Flash also works well. (I actually switched clarity to ghost when I play with Rammus now since I got better at managing my mana lol)

Looks great, never really considered Rammus' amazing jungle potential but with his incredible early game defensive ability now it seems like a no brainer, also less risk of getting ganked than other champs since you can simply p-ball out at the first sign of an enemy champion scouting for you. Thanks for guide!

A great guide to jungle, he really explains how the dynamics of the build work together. Its started me on creating my own build for a jungle Ram.

The reason for Magic Pen runes is that all of Rammus abilities are magic based. Not only will you be able to clear the jungle faster with magic pen runes, in teamfights your DBC and Tremors will be doing considerable amount of dmg. As for your preference, mana regen runes are bad choices for marks and quintessences as they are not primary runes. There is a really good guide on Mobafire about what primary and secondary runes mean. Basically, it's not optimal to use secondary runes in an optimized setup. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Rammus has major mana problems and mana regen runes don't really help that much lol. If anything just get clarity as one of your summoner spells.
