I respectfully disagree with @darkestbrezel. I feel like if riot wanted to represent the gay community, why not make a new character that was compelling and well made, but just happened to be gay. Riot did not have to retcon an already existing character like varus- to me it feels very cheap and tacky. I am an African American, and I know that if riot( instead of releasing Lucian as the first black character) they just made an already existing character(say ryze) black. I would have been extremely pissed. Most people are not angry because Varus is gay, they are angry that because riot wanted to promote a certain community, they changed an already well written character. It feels like Riot is pushing this on them as a way to please a certain community
I know I'm late, but I saw this video for the first time today and I love it. As some of you may know, Australia only just recently - as in literally 5 days ago - legalised same-sex marriage, becoming the 26th country to do so. It required a country-wide postal "vote" that was non-compulsary, but nearly 8 out of 10 Australians voted.
I can't say that changing Varus' lore was the best delivery method for the message/representation of same-sex relationships, but I can say that the video and comics were tasteful. I can't imagine how homosexual or bisexual people are feeling, but I'm fiercely proud that League of Legends is trying to encompass human conditions.
