I have a few questions I would like to ask you about the proposed item build though: You suggest to get Sterak’s Gage before getting Spirit Visage or Dead Mans Plate. I am not completely sure why? Hecarim has a lot of healing with his W + Conquerer. Through the healing, his “effective health” is much higher than his actual health. In my opinion, he benefits from the early Armor or Magic Resist far more than from additional health. He takes less damage, but heals for the same amount than before. Therefore he can stay longer in fights than with just more health (see also Health/Armor Ratio, where the optimal ratio of armor and health is calculated mathematically). What is your opinion on that? (PS: My Standard build path is: Trinity, Cinderhulk, Tabis/Mercurys, Armor/ MR Item, Sterak's Gage, Another Armor/MR item)
Also I have a second question: I am often playing against a fed and super beefy Garen lately. And as I am more often than not the frontline of my team, I fight toe to toe against the tanks. Though I feel like with my standard build, I have no impact against tanks at all (and my ADC is resistant to buy Armor Pen..). Would you recommend me to get Mortal Reminder against such healing/heavy armor tanks? I feel like it is not really fitting into Hecarims kit, but the grievous wounds and the armor penetration are nice.
Would really appreciate if I get an answer from you personally. Keep up the good work! :) Cheers!
To answer your questions, while it is true that Dead Man's Plate or Spirit Visage can probably give more effective health than Sterak's Gage, keep in mind that you get Sterak's Gage for the attack damage you get from its passive along with the health. Due to that, Sterak's Gage in general is better for carrying and winning games. Sterak's Gage can also be better than an Armor or MR item against true damage and mixed damage, but really the damage and the beefiness it comes with is the biggest reason you get it. You also don't heal for the same amount, you end up healing more as more damage means more healing from Spirit of Dread and Conqueror, as long as you can stay alive.
For the second question; truth of the matter is, Hecarim is not the best champion to frontline with. You're way better off at dealing with the backline, and hoping the rest of your team can deal with their frontline. If you do have to frontline though, I would advise against buying Mortal Reminder, as your goal is to be tanky as possible. If you're in the frontline with it, the enemy team will just kill you faster and you still wouldn't be able to kill their frontline because you would be dead.
If they do have a problematic frontline that you can't deal with, the best thing you can do is take out their backline and then you and the rest of your team can deal with the frontline in an easier manner.
Hopefully my explanations make sense but if you need me to clarify something a bit more please let me know.
Basically, I was wondering which item can replace one of Dead Man's Plate and Spirit Visage to give you more AD. I usually go: Stalker's Blade: Warrior > Ninja Tabi/Mercury's > Trinity Force > Dead Man's Plate, Spirit Visage, Sterak's Gage (last 3 in varying order). When I get really fed which often happens I want to finish faster and need more AD, sometimes I take Death's Dance over Spirit Visage but that's about it. Would a Youmuu's be better? Or any other offensive item instead.
Again, great guide. Hope you answer.
I do not recommend Youmuu's Ghostblade as that is a playstyle for assassin Hecarim, and mixing bruiser items with assassin items is generally not ideal.
I'm glad you liked the guide :)
Well, even if I don't personally play hecarim, I can recognize a good guide when I see one. It's particularly detailed and the amount of informations about both hecarim (and everything surrounding him) and the jungle role in general is astounding; the ganking and objectives chapters are particularly useful for those who aren't the best when it comes to jungling (like me :^) )
A great guide that I would recommend to anyone
(little thing: you should do a quick check in the runes chapter, the spacing is a bit wonky, sometimes double return, sometimes one and one time is missing (near celerity))
I'd remove the "game dragging too long" item set so that the "get by 20 minutes" would slot in there nicely. More compact!
A little repetitive in the synergies section.
Love the opening banner.
With the new Table of Contents option, any reason why you're not using it? New builder also changes the colour of the guide background, which I think would suit your guide better. It also changes the colour of the BBCode to look nicer.
I just realised that in your banners, Hecarim is inside the outline of a horse. Really cool!
Don't know if I like the Smite/Ghost images. Probably too much space between Smite and Ghost too, but overall I like the formatting.
Great job explaining the runes. Possibly don't need to explain runes you don't go with ( Celerity for example).
Cool ability icons!
I like the videos in the ability section - do you think you could get more? I especially liked seeing how abilities can be used precisely to give different effects (Onslaught as an escape, as opposed to engage etc).
Formatting in "Core Items' appears off - perhaps indent the components a little more with a greater column width to really show that they are components, not just separate items?
For a non-jungler, there were some terms I didn't quite get. "Pixel brush"? Could you go into a little more detail as to how I would jungle Hecarim when clearing camps? Do I target the smaller creeps first, or the largest one (in camps like raptors and wolves).
You don't really mention much about taking minions in lane. You mention briefly tower plating, but I think it'd be great if you discussed a bit more about pushing a lane and the benefits of it.
Overextended maps for mid and bot would be great too.
I love the clips throughout, demonstrating your explanations. I especially have enjoyed reading about how to gank and avoiding crowd control. It's great to see how you focus targets who need to be killed and it's almost as if we can see your decision making process.
In terms of what else to add to the guide - more clips! Have you considered streaming games of you playing Hecarim? With the top guide, you could gain quite a lot of views! I think you could add a little paragraph on when to pick Hecarim - what team comps are best for him and when you should avoid picking him. Which lane is "best" to gank for Hecarim - are there any other factors that come into play (I know you talk a lot about many factors, but what about counter-ganking?). When should you give buffs to your allies, if ever? If you do get Rift Herald, when should it be used?
Hope this all helps :) +1

You're right, I removed it
A little repetitive in the synergies section.
The reason they synergize so well is more or less for the exact same reason, although I should probably paraphase.
With the new Table of Contents option, any reason why you're not using it? New builder also changes the colour of the guide background, which I think would suit your guide better. It also changes the colour of the BBCode to look nicer.
I started the guide in 2015 and I haven't moved over to the new builder format yet
Don't know if I like the Smite/Ghost images. Probably too much space between Smite and Ghost too, but overall I like the formatting.
Made those in 2015 too, they did not age well :(
Great job explaining the runes. Possibly don't need to explain runes you don't go with ( Celerity for example).
Celerity has recently been reworked, and gutted, and many Hecarim users seem to still take it after the rework, so I try to explain why it's not the optimal option in an attempt to convince others too.
I like the videos in the ability section - do you think you could get more?
I'm always on the lookout for more clips when I play Hecarim, it's just a matter of which clip is worth showing and which isn't.
Formatting in "Core Items' appears off - perhaps indent the components a little more with a greater column width to really show that they are components, not just separate items?
I increased the indent for clarity issues
For a non-jungler, there were some terms I didn't quite get. "Pixel brush"? Could you go into a little more detail as to how I would jungle Hecarim when clearing camps? Do I target the smaller creeps first, or the largest one (in camps like raptors and wolves).
The pixel brush is the single unit brush in the middle of the river. I realize now there is a major oversight for general jungle clearing and there's quite a bit I want to talk about in that regard so I'll be adding new information soon. Thanks for letting me know about it :)
You don't really mention much about taking minions in lane. You mention briefly tower plating, but I think it'd be great if you discussed a bit more about pushing a lane and the benefits of it.
Another great suggestion, thanks :)
Overextended maps for mid and bot would be great too.
Bot lane is a mirror of top lane so I might not add that, but yeah I should add mid lane too.
I'm not top guide :( and streaming doesn't interest me, although now you're making me think about it :p
I think you could add a little paragraph on when to pick Hecarim - what team comps are best for him and when you should avoid picking him. Those are all definitely things I want to add. Your review was very uplifting and constructive at the same time. Thank you very much for the detailed review, you're a blessing to all mobafire users! I only wish there was a better way for me to show my gratitude
@ Emikadon did the cool horse graphics stuff btw.
