I will try this build today and tell how it was :)
However he seems to have a potential to shine harder in duo with jungler or flexq, because of the power of staff of flawing water in group stage.
U might love our Taric discord server
I am still working hard on taric toplane and I would love to chat with u :)

My go to is 90% of the time PTA for the dmg it provides. additionally Presence of mind with atks, ad,and armor and time warp tonic with boots. My reason for going this is to have the lvl 2/3 powerspike with your dps and healing from potion + Q. Many top laners would not know tarics dmg and I get most of the time First Blood using this and ignite at the last second to make them flash.
Yeah at this point you can see the big difference. Where you prefer to play as a tank/support. Im going for dmg to kill my laner/backliners. After that the build would depend on how the game goes.
-draft taric as smart as possible. I pick him all the time but this is definitely suboptimal.
Use chat a lot in champ select. Sometimes your teammates dont realise that adc main plays jungle and jungle main plays adc. Paste chat log to porofessor to realise asap whats going on.
-shotcalling, even in d1 there are many games where there is no shotcaller. Ask jungler to help you with wave menagement/ recalls.
-duo games ! Imagine how far can u smurf with kindred or xin jungle with ur toplane taric. When you play duo you can make sure you have at least one pick in your team you can play around. Its really ******** when you have kassadin mid kha zix jungle and pyke support, right?
-clean play, mechanics etc. Taric has insane apm during orbwalking and short trades. Use practice tool to be warmed up before game session.
-pink taric has the highest wr, confirmed. Very baiting any frustrating skin for enemy. :)
-try to get into next level of wave menagement. My skills are limited to 1st tier turret, and I can very often set the wave for me in even lane. What I want to do is to make it more consistent and to get into next level. I wish I could set a wave after laning so I can roam and stack huge mine/ enemy waves meanhile.
For ultimate laning power try to include bone plating and demolish if possible. Precision tree doesnt offer much laning power besides keystone. Those runes are v strong however they reward taric in 15 min + stage of the game. And we need a reward here and now.
Green tree prompts faster than yellow tree. I think even in dps start you should use it.
Being honest my runepage is on the edge of working pre 6 on high elo. Without cookies I would most likely lack mana to execute a kill.
So with my current skills high elo runes are only green + inspiration tree. Grasp Unsealed Glacial Klepto.
All those runepages might include the most powerful laning runes.
The main issues with more damage oriented builds is that their efficiency is more matchup specific.
Pros of dps builds:
U farm more easly and cant be countered by hardpushing your wave into your tower. Moreover if you are winning you can get more gold/min. Its also easier to execute kills without flash ignite in general.
cons:
Jax/Riven/Fiora/Renekton/Darius for instance aren't a problem unless they perform a combo that chunks for 2/3 of your HP. If they are able to do that they will prevent you from healing back from minions, meaning they counter your sustain. This isnt the case with more tanky itemising.
And the more important cons is that is harder to found yourself in teamfights with dps itemising. Lets say you have bought roa muramana and tabis and this is your 20 minute itemising.
In order to use tarics dps when you engage.
1 you need to be faster than enemy, take into account that every champion besides diana and illaoi can disengage taric. Youd better not use spells while pursuing becouse it self stuns you for 0.25 second.
2 you need to survive closing the gap (in teamfight you need to deal with full team enemy focus too)
3 once you reach em it would be nice to have a source of slows
4 you need to be stronger than them in melee combat.
So in engage situations muramana and tytanic hydra are useless unless you have tank itemising that secure their value. Notice that enemy adc needs to really underestimate your dps outcome to let you enter melee combat. Taric is the easiest champion to kite in the entire game since casting Q W R applies 0.25 stun on him. Casting 4 spells in teamfight means that you will be that 380 distance away from target. So enemy adc has that 380 distance handicap, and this is really huge.
If you look on itemising of udyr/ darius trundle meta builds include always a movespeed and tank items , and they play often with only 1-2 dps items ( trinity force, sometimes steraks). And they are all much better at entering melee combat than taric is. And the higher the elo the less success and impact they have, becouse enemy backline is more skillful and better at disengaging.
My taric build doesnt fall off in high elo becouse I make sure I am tanky enough to play as aggressively as I can. Even with one of the most tanky starting items like corrupting potion roa sunfire, I sometimes die in 1.5 second being on MY BACKLANE before my ulti falls.
It happened to me in recent game in 17 minute, after I won lane hard. Imagine If I had damage items and tried to engage enemy backlane instead.
Being honest I started my journey with taric 2 years ago with double tear build for maximum stat efficiency. However sometimes mathematically optimal builds dont have any use during laning. It had sth like 4k hp 400 ad 400 ap 150 mr 250 armour and healed and dealt a lot.
However it was heavly subomtimal since frontlane taric has to deal with this bulleted list since 15 minute of the game, and this is scaling 35 minute full build, with many windows of weakness.
Not gonna lie I consider muramana as a perfect smurf item. It just doesnt keep up in higher elo with my tankiness needs.
After its a wait for lvl 2 or in some cases lvl 1 with an off direction E + f with 2AA and ignite. Easy lvl 1 kill with 2 potions left. I would always try to get lvl 2 first. lvl 2 is basically the same just find a good moment to stun them and give them a smacking.
Ignite on the last second if youre winning the fight to bait their flash. BTW try not to use too much Q's on minions because lvl 1 Q is half of what lvl 2Q gives.
On red side youll have to try and proc PTA with 1 AA followed by E at lvl1. If you can hit the minions with your E thats great to get lvl 2 and not take too much minion dmg. I would try to not get too much minion agro but if i know i can win I wouldnt care and go into their minions for the a trade.
But in case for the other 3 its an even matchup I would say. You wouldnt heal too much from minions in the first place, mana issues otherwise, rather the potions and the Q's during fighting would be most of it. And at that point the enemy should be atleast 50% or really low. With that its easy to freeze on them or make a slow push.
Another game of mine I was against a Cass. According to your guide its an hard match up but only once they have items/lvls. The lvl 2 powerspike gets you ahead and gives the possibility to completely snowball and get them out of the game for a good while. This works against most ranged top laners except ryze: he can just spam farm with easy, Kayle: after the changes shes just too strong, Kennen: cant ever reach him, Vlad: He's weak early but gets fast powerspikes making it harder and harder to win.
The other advantage of this is definetly once youre ahead in lane the enemy toplaner cant do much if its an melee champ. Short trades with e and 1AA for PTA leaves them low while youre taking close to no dmg. And longer trades would be won because it would end within a 1-2 additional Qs.
manamune en Titanic is the most common build I would go for. Just for the AA reset and Q animation cancel with q and w. It removes yourself stun and allows for a higher dps. Pared with PTA it would leave any champion at a low hp to the point where they cant do much in the fight. Using R early makes it survivable but it gives them time to run away. Most of the time I would try to make a flank or straight out make an e flash. Gives you just enought time for 2AA and Titanic.
Having slows would be nice obviously but its not a big problem aslong my team can provide any followip and cc. You should be stronger than any other champion unless he's overfed or something like Jax with spear. You would be surprised by how many adc ive killed in 3 aa + ingite.
Also against a team that engages on to you is super benificial, removing all the need to go in in the first place and bursting them down with a few AA. Had many times where an engager would e q into us by been bursted down in a sec by me. followed by r for the team. making it an easy 5v4.
Your build wouldnt fall off at all but I would say mine is, although more expensive, good enough. I wouldnt build full dmg taric for obvious reasons. once the manamune and titanic are done I would go for tank or support items. But the window of weakness is very true. Against a fed ap mage or adc its quite bad if youre not able to burst them down. But in these cases my team isnt able to do any decent dmg either regardless if i was a tank or dps.
Another thing I really hate is the fact youre not able to do anything with a tanky build if your botlane/midlane is far behind. youre not able to deal any dmg nor able to sustain the backline enough3. It just delays the enevitable death of the team.
I felt the struggle with my build before in D2 and since then have fallen off/played less on my main. Im sure it would be better if i used your build for a higher win% but I straight out dont like the playstyle where you play to go even or to catch up in lane. The low waveclear makes it even worse too against anyone with any waveclear.
As last i forgot to mention in my previous comment that having a tankybuild would force another teammate to push out your lane most of the time reducing your gold income and your overall tempo because most likely your dps would be pusing it out leaving not much for you to do besides stand with your team.
I dont know solutions versus riven. She has very powerful combo that doesnt allow me to perform any counterplay. I think I need to cheese her early somehow, and then just play with wave menagement and dont count on kills. She doesnt have sustain so 2 good trades might give me v good pre 6.
I mained Riven and I can tell you Taric cant do anything against a Riven. a cheese might help at lvl 1 and 2 but once she has her spells up its up to her to decide when to fight. Also its easy for Riven to use a E aa W+Q aa combo and geting out of range with Q again before youre stun went off. So its just perma ban Riven.
I might be wrong but its also an option right?
Is riven defenseless after those combos?
what if I take meme summonners like ghost exhaust and punish her for this "poke" with an all in? I have never checked becouse I have no guts to take ghost exh on my peak elo.
Ps. My expectation is that she will die or lose flash or will be forced to recall.
I imagine tarics runes would be like : glacial + boots/stopwatch+ cookies+ approach velocity
+ bone plating + revitalise
Itemising rush tabis catalyst sunfire idk order then roa
your runes and items would make it survivable but you wouldnt win the lane unless she makes a dumb mistake. the exhaust would make her lvl 6 all in survivalble and may lead to a kill if she overextends. But I wouldnt count too much on this tho.
It allows you to make even better combo Q come closer 2aa E aa
I think it leaves a room for only 1 auto attack for enemy while you use 5 or 6 in this combo for free.
I didnt menage to use this but with muramana + full tank itemising I reached 700 dps on practice tool with mentioned tool for 6 AA.
