Hey man cool guide. Wanted to ask something, what are the advantages of taking ghost over flash? And why would you take it, to me it seems it could only be good for escaping and chasing someone to kill them with sunfire later on.

Thanks! Yeah ghost can be great, given the right circumstances. I've been noticing some high elo Sion mains take ghost every game, while others take flash every game. It's mostly preference. People are starting to realize that ghost is a great option as well now.

Flash is great because it's versatile and easy to use. It is obviously best for dodging a single ability or getting over walls, etc. It is also great for comboing with abilities such as E or R, though flash combos aren't particularly useful for Sion compared to some other champions.

Ghost is great for more specific reasons and is less versatile in my opinion. The best arguments for ghost are that it is a shorter cooldown, lasts a long time, and it scales with level. It is ideal for extended fights and trades, allowing you to stick to opponants in situations where they would normally outrun you. It is also great for teamfights because it lasts a long time and the duration is extended on takedowns. I find it to be incredibly useful when freezing the enemy minion wave at your tower. Once the enemy comes up to farm, (assuming you are stronger than them) you can throw an E at them and Ghost to run them down and kill them. They have to run all the way back to their tower and can't outrun you.

Overall, I suggest trying them both out and see which you think works best for you. Ghost is a bit more of an aggressive option and will work better with more aggressive builds. Flash is more versatile and safe. There's never a bad game to take flash in. Taking ghost can make you especially vulnerable against certain Junglers who need to land a skill shot on you, like Elise, so you'll have to be more observant of the enemy jungler and react quickly.

I think you're right but I do think it has some use cases for tank Sion, even top lane. I should definitely lower it in priority compared to the other options. I think it could be useful in lanes where you cannot do auto attack trades very often like Teemo. One could argue that Comet or Spellbook would be better in that situation though but I do think it depends on what you are looking for. The main use case I can think of is if you are the only engage champ on your team and/or you are duoing/flexing with someone who plays hypercarries and you want to provide more peel while sacrificing some lane power and damage. I will lower it in priority and change the description, thanks for the suggestion!

I love your guide. :) I am looking for a new champ and people suggested sion. But I do have a question: Why do you start W instead of Q? Isn't Q good to get a free hit early on, and to get some cs against champs that are great early on?

Hey, I'm glad you like the guide! Starting Q or W level one is mostly just personal preference. Starting Q is good if you need to leash or if you want to try to sit in the bush and charge a full Q on the enemy laner at level one. I generally take W at level one for a couple of reasons. One reason is that you DO NOT gain health stacks from your W passive unless you have a point in your W. This means that if you start W at level one you will have +28 max health by the time you reach level 2 (assuming you last hit the first 7 minions) over a Sion who started Q. Another reason is that the W just seems better now for a level one trade. What I tend to do is start W, sit in the middle top lane bush and wait for the first 3 enemy minions to get low. Then I pre cast my w and run into the middle of the minions and next to the enemy champion and hit them all with my shield pop. The shield actually does really solid damage. Finally, if you end up taking just about any auto attack trades at level one, you are better off with your W shield than your Q. The Q is good for the first bush cheese but after that it is weak in trades. The W at level one basically lets you get a free auto attack or two off on the enemy before your shield goes down. Again, it's just personal preference though so maybe try each start out and see how it feels for you.
