Hey man cool guide. Wanted to ask something, what are the advantages of taking ghost over flash? And why would you take it, to me it seems it could only be good for escaping and chasing someone to kill them with sunfire later on.

Thanks! Yeah ghost can be great, given the right circumstances. I've been noticing some high elo Sion mains take ghost every game, while others take flash every game. It's mostly preference. People are starting to realize that ghost is a great option as well now.

Flash is great because it's versatile and easy to use. It is obviously best for dodging a single ability or getting over walls, etc. It is also great for comboing with abilities such as E or R, though flash combos aren't particularly useful for Sion compared to some other champions.

Ghost is great for more specific reasons and is less versatile in my opinion. The best arguments for ghost are that it is a shorter cooldown, lasts a long time, and it scales with level. It is ideal for extended fights and trades, allowing you to stick to opponants in situations where they would normally outrun you. It is also great for teamfights because it lasts a long time and the duration is extended on takedowns. I find it to be incredibly useful when freezing the enemy minion wave at your tower. Once the enemy comes up to farm, (assuming you are stronger than them) you can throw an E at them and Ghost to run them down and kill them. They have to run all the way back to their tower and can't outrun you.

Overall, I suggest trying them both out and see which you think works best for you. Ghost is a bit more of an aggressive option and will work better with more aggressive builds. Flash is more versatile and safe. There's never a bad game to take flash in. Taking ghost can make you especially vulnerable against certain Junglers who need to land a skill shot on you, like Elise, so you'll have to be more observant of the enemy jungler and react quickly.

I think you're right but I do think it has some use cases for tank Sion, even top lane. I should definitely lower it in priority compared to the other options. I think it could be useful in lanes where you cannot do auto attack trades very often like Teemo. One could argue that Comet or Spellbook would be better in that situation though but I do think it depends on what you are looking for. The main use case I can think of is if you are the only engage champ on your team and/or you are duoing/flexing with someone who plays hypercarries and you want to provide more peel while sacrificing some lane power and damage. I will lower it in priority and change the description, thanks for the suggestion!

I just had one question. Does Smite-Lane Sion still "work?" A lot of people on reddit and elsewhere claim it doesn't "work" anymore, and I'm not sure what the mean by that exactly. Are they just trying to say it's not meta and inefficient?

It's viable but it has some significant weaknesses. Not having flash can be really bad for the laning phase and sets you up to get camped. Also the first couple items you have to buy are not necessarily ideal until you get the full jungle item. Jungle items (cinderhulk) do not give any armor or magic resist either which can be an issue in the early game. While Smite-Lane Sion has these weaknesses, it also has a couple strengths that normal tank Sion does not. You will scale much better into the late game with a massive health pool as smite Sion. You will also have smite which can be useful in 1v1s (red smite/blue smite) and allows you to steal jungle camps, take scuttle crab, and have a second smite for baron/dragon if you can coordinate with your jungler. Overall, I'd say regular tank Sion is better in most situations but smite Sion can be good when you are against a weak lane opponent/jungler early game and the enemies do not have % health damage. Also smite Sion in lane is just a ton of fun and you feel like a raid boss late game if you farmed well.

Thanks for the response my guy. I've been playing with smite Sion for about a week now, and to be honest the power-spike doesn't feel worth it. I feel like I can get so much more from different items than Cinderhulk. It's literally 600 extra HP at 20 minutes..
