Hey man cool guide. Wanted to ask something, what are the advantages of taking ghost over flash? And why would you take it, to me it seems it could only be good for escaping and chasing someone to kill them with sunfire later on.

Thanks! Yeah ghost can be great, given the right circumstances. I've been noticing some high elo Sion mains take ghost every game, while others take flash every game. It's mostly preference. People are starting to realize that ghost is a great option as well now.

Flash is great because it's versatile and easy to use. It is obviously best for dodging a single ability or getting over walls, etc. It is also great for comboing with abilities such as E or R, though flash combos aren't particularly useful for Sion compared to some other champions.

Ghost is great for more specific reasons and is less versatile in my opinion. The best arguments for ghost are that it is a shorter cooldown, lasts a long time, and it scales with level. It is ideal for extended fights and trades, allowing you to stick to opponants in situations where they would normally outrun you. It is also great for teamfights because it lasts a long time and the duration is extended on takedowns. I find it to be incredibly useful when freezing the enemy minion wave at your tower. Once the enemy comes up to farm, (assuming you are stronger than them) you can throw an E at them and Ghost to run them down and kill them. They have to run all the way back to their tower and can't outrun you.

Overall, I suggest trying them both out and see which you think works best for you. Ghost is a bit more of an aggressive option and will work better with more aggressive builds. Flash is more versatile and safe. There's never a bad game to take flash in. Taking ghost can make you especially vulnerable against certain Junglers who need to land a skill shot on you, like Elise, so you'll have to be more observant of the enemy jungler and react quickly.

I think you're right but I do think it has some use cases for tank Sion, even top lane. I should definitely lower it in priority compared to the other options. I think it could be useful in lanes where you cannot do auto attack trades very often like Teemo. One could argue that Comet or Spellbook would be better in that situation though but I do think it depends on what you are looking for. The main use case I can think of is if you are the only engage champ on your team and/or you are duoing/flexing with someone who plays hypercarries and you want to provide more peel while sacrificing some lane power and damage. I will lower it in priority and change the description, thanks for the suggestion!

I am Top Ornn main user and I meet Sion lots of times. I wonder if you've thought of building Faerie Charm for mana regeneration, and then upgrading it to Mikael's Blessing in the mid-game. It provides 50 MR (while Abyssal Mask/Gargoyle/FoN provide 60 MR), 20% Heal/Shield Power, 100% Mana Regen, and CC removal for carry role in your team. I feel like it's even better for Sion than Ornn, because Sion has shield from his W. I always see enemy Sion running out of mana when I lane against one. Would you consider building it, instead of Spirit Visage?

Hmm, that's interesting. I never really thought about Mikael's as an option. I do think it has potential but I doubt it could be better than other options in most situations. Spirit Visage, while more expensive also increases shield strength by 25% (an additional 5% for himself over Mikael's) as well as giving +450 health (Mikael's gives 0) and 40 MR (Mikael's actually gives 10 more MR). Mikael's does give slightly more MR and Ability Haste than Spirit Visage but I don't think it's enough to compensate for the loss of 450 health and 5% extra healing and shielding that Spirit Visage gives over Mikael's, as well as the +100% base health regen. Now, for the mana regen, I think that would be a good reason to go Mikael's over something like Spirit Visage. You're right, Sion does have a lot of mana issues and tends to run out fast and Riot unfortunately removed most mana tank options from the game. Over time Sion mains tend to learn how to manage their mana well and start with items like Corrupting Potion and take Biscuits in runes to help negate the mana problem. These choices are generally enough to not run out of mana as long as you are not spamming your abilities on cooldown, which is a skill Sion mains need to learn. I do think Mikael's could definitely have a place for a newer Sion main that isn't very good at managing mana. Also I could see it being used if you have like a Brand support or really any mage support and a fed hypercarry adc like Vayne, the Vayne will need peel so the Mikael's active could be very nice for that. It could also be good on Sion support in general, I think that could be a great option because it's cheaper and cost effective. You could even pair it with Locket on Sion support for an increased shield. Overall, I think it's definitely an option and could work early-mid game but the difference in raw stats will be noticed in the later game so it probably wouldn't be better than other options except for niche situations where you need the active or you just keep running out of mana on Sion. Also, I did not mention it before, but Frozen Heart is a classic, great option for Sion if you need mana. The only problem with Frozen Heart is that it doesn't give any tank stats besides a ton of armor (and the attack speed slow passive) so it isn't good against teams that have heavy magic damage. I definitely want to give Mikael's a try now though, that sounds like a really interesting option and I honestly never really thought about it before.

Hey, thank you very much for your detailed response! I really appreciate it :) Maybe you don't have to replace Spirit Visage, but build Mikael first (since it's cheaper) and build Spirit Visage afterwards, and maybe not build Warmog? It's really up to you to decide which item to NOT go, and I think you know it better than me as Sion player. (Of course I am aware that Sion's W increases max. health like Overgrowth rune, but note that this is a much cheaper item compared to Warmog/Abyssal/Gargoyle!). I feel like Tank champions nowadays can't do much against antitank items like Liandry/Kraken/Demonic Embrace which are HP-based, so increasing Health may not be as effective as time goes. Building Mikael is to accelerate this process while you regenerate Mana, rather than Heal/Shield effect, and giving one more chance for your carry role by removing CC. Also, I would suggest getting Conditioning rune, which can increase your MR slightly as well. I am going this build on Orrn at EUW D2 elo, and I'm doing it even when Ornn has no Heal/Shield. This is because Ornn's passive of building items outside base makes it perfect to start Doran's Shield and 1 HP pot, then build Faerie Charm afterwards, making him extra sustainable (and I take Biscuit runes too) with indefinite pokes of Q and W. I hope I can see higher elo tank players building Mikael, because I feel like it's really a good item at a really cheap cost. I'll practice Sion and try this build myself too. Again, thank you for considering this option and I'm really glad that you find it interesting :)
