I find Yone to be my worst macth up also Warwick top isn't featured... any advice?

A good Yone can be very difficult. I'll add a Warwick section, thank you for the reminder!

As for advice (and this will apply to both Yone and Warwick):

Champions that make use of Healing and Lethal Tempo can have a lot of their power reduced by early Plated Steelcaps, Warden's Mail, and Bramble Vest. If you are against a heavy AD team comp you can get away with building all 3, otherwise pick two and work on your mythic. Iceborn Gauntlet will be most effective because these champions have the stats and sustain to continue trading with you, and IBG will make you very hard to kill.

You can't actually out-duel Warwick or Yone unless the player is making huge mistakes often. Your best way to beat these champions is to meet them in 4v4/5v5's where you can soak their damage and allow your carries to dish out the damage to kill them. When side laning just hold your tower and make sure they can't get off easy free roams.

Hi, what is your starting item? I found a mention of using corrupt in trades somewhere I think, but you don't have starting items named anywhere. Dorans Shield seems to be taken alot, Corrupt is always nice to have, but sometimes I see cull too.
What do you think of cull as starting item/first back?
1
Boptimus (2) | January 13, 2023 10:55am
Hey! For AD it's Corrupting Potion always. For Tank you have the freedom to go Corrupting Potion, Doran's Shield, Cull, Tear of the Goddess, ect. . It really just depends on what your match up is, what your runes are, and how you want your very early game to look. Cull is fine but I normally use a starting item for a cheater recall, then I pick up Cull.

Hello! Very well-made guide, my friend!

I am curious, what do you think about Triumph on Sion as a secondary rune? When I think about it, it is a good rune, especially in teamfights, because it provides a lot of value, given its %health regeneration.

Let me know what you think about this! Again, great guide!

Boptimus (2) | December 19, 2022 6:57am
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

When taking a look at Triumph, on paper it looks absolutely fine for him, but when considering different runes I always like to look at whats available and most practical. There are 2 main barriers that need to be considered.

1. Triumph is a 'Multi-Kill' rune.
2. Sion has sub-optimal access to the Precision Tree.

So this means you will likely be taking Triumph in your secondary tree, and this has to compete with;
Legend: Tenacity, Legend: Alacrity
Coup de Grace, Last Stand.

And if you are taking Precision over Inspiration/Resolve/Sorcery (depending on your build), then you will be missing out on a lane rune.

So now lets make ourselves a check-list with all of the information we have:
- Will I need extra Tenacity this game? Do I want extra Attack speed for splitting?
- Will the extra damage from Coup/Last Stand swing the outcome of early game fights?
- Do a need runes for lane? Or can I get away with the Precision Tree?
- Will it be a high kill game?

So objectively, I would say it's a good rune in certain situations, and I think it's important to explore different options. I would also mention that Triumph has more value in Jungle or Mid than Top, because you will have access to more skirmishes and fights.

Hopefully this helps! If you do find yourself using Triumph in some matches let me know the results!

Very well put together guide! This is the best Sion guide I've found so far!

I have some questions to ask, as a low ELO player (Gold 4)

Up to what ELO do you recommend going for the classic Grasp of the Undying > Sunfire > Hullbreaker > Full Tank build? Also, when should I group and when should I sit in the side-lanes and farm?

Thank you in advance for any answers!

Hey thank you!

You will probably end up hitting a wall around Mid-Platinum if you're going this build every game, and you will eventually have to start diversifying.

You should Sidelane up until about the 3rd Drake; At this point in the game you will either need to secure or deny Soul point unless the Drakes are 1-1. If it looks like it's going to be a close fight you have the option to TP as well. If you're running a Splitpush build you should stay Sidelane and syphon as much Gold and XP as possible until your team needs you in order to win fights. Once you start grouping you should be extremely hard to kill. If you group too much too early you will start to fall very far behind.

Figuring out when and when not to group ultimately is game and match up dependent, just don't leave your team wishing they had you for important teamfights and objectives. Not showing up to Mid and Late game fights can be game throwing.

best sion build out there, everything the person told me to do i listened and won lane 80% of the time. At first, sion is hard but once you realize hes a farming champ and not a fighter like sett, you'll see a whole new perspective on farming and how far ahead in lane you can get with it. This guide is one of the best out there for information about lane, sion's matchups, and of course his builds. Thank you!

Hi bro very good guide, but i have some questions, im noob with Sion and im really bad against hard poke matchups, especially against ranged champs(like kalista and lucian), i can do something to farm good and stay safe at the same time against this matchups?
1
Boptimus (2) | August 10, 2022 7:37am
Hey, thanks man!

Match ups like these are pretty hard. I would recommend Doran's Shield and Second Wind. It's perfectly fine to give up early CS until you can get your hands on Plated Steelcaps and some extra armor and HP components. Eventually you will be very difficult to poke out.

You can take Arcane Comet as well to help poke back and make it more difficult for ranged champions to trade for free.

Hi just asking why trinity over divune sunderer in the bruiser build
1
Boptimus (2) | June 14, 2022 12:37pm
You can certainly give Divine Sunderer a try, though the Bruiser build is now a bit outdated as Hullbreakers interaction with Spellblade procs has been removed, along with nerfs to Hullbreaker and Sion in general.

nastysloth | June 14, 2022 1:45pm
Alrighty thanks i personally have seen alot of success because of the armour pen and tankiness letting me do enough dmg and be tanky enough also what do you mean with the hull breaker spellblade change? Ive only been playing sion for a small time so idk what u mean

I would very much appreciate if you would add a Lillia matchup, cuz she has seen alot of play in the toplane and with the best winrate of all toplaners with like 56% winrate. Thank you :)
1
Boptimus (2) | June 6, 2022 11:51am
I haven't played against Lillia enough to give a solid breakdown BUT the times that I have gone against Lillia I've found success running Frostfire into Force of Nature.

You'll be lacking a significant amount of damage with this build but you will be incredibly hard to move. The Frostfire and Force of Nature also helps you stick to her easier in fights for lock down.

Hopefully we see her nerfed before I have to play against her again.

When is the right time to assemble the siona into a tank. and when in ad?
1
Boptimus (2) | May 19, 2022 7:51pm
A good rule of thumb is to build Sion as Tank when your team needs frontline. If you have plenty of frontline feel free to build AD.
2
tezerini | May 12, 2022 9:46am
Will sion suffer much after the update?
1
Boptimus (2) | May 13, 2022 3:45pm
Sion will be in relatively the same spot IMO. Riot was pretty open about the Hullbreaker nerf and direct nerf to Sion being more "placebo" to get people to stop going 10+ deaths per game. Obviously you will lose a couple of Plates in lane and maybe miss some opportunities to finish of towers but if you're an active Sion player then you should have nothing to worry about. Sion's over all strength and strength combined with Hullbreaker are for the most part unchanged.

Man, I have never come across such a good guide. Rich info, and at no cost except for your time which you will get back. However, I do have a question, if you do not mind.
As sion, how long should you proxy for (I know the answer as long as you can but under a specific circumstance)? Let’s say I have a wave under the enemy tower with none of theirs. The best situation to proxy. Garen is stuck in tower farming and I take one wave. From my math I can infer that he’s most likely only taking 50% of the cs and if I take the incoming enemy wave it’ll be a gold advantage for me (105 vs ~50). I’ll then sit in the bush until the next wave comes. I try to take the wave, but Garen tries to kill me. Should I just be satisfied with my 50 gold advantage, and go back to lane? What more can I do? Additionally, I love playing Sion I really want to improve instead of being hardstuck so if you don’t mind can I have your discord tag so I can occasionally ask questions related to Sion (if it’s not too much trouble)? Oh and finally what are the best times to roam? How do you decide? Thanks

Boptimus (2) | January 20, 2022 1:58pm
I'm glad you like it! Theres lots here so I'll try to break it down in sections.

1. So proxying is always going to be conditional, but for the most part if you can proxying without getting killed you should almost always do it. On the other side of that, if you're dying to your laner and they're bullying you off CS, you might as well just take the risk and try to proxy anyway. The best situation to proxy is when enemy JG camps are up, so once you clear a wave you can take camps, and then clear another wave. If Garen tries to chase you off the wave, he's either giving up a wave of his own, or a slow push will be created for you to pick up. If you have full kill gold you can wrap around and go back to laning normally. If you're something like 0/4/0 you might as well take him as far as you can, and bonus points if you can clear waves while doing it. He'll pick up the 220g on you and lose a lot more from the CS deficit.

2. Discord tag is Boptimus#2163 , leave me a message and I'll try to get around to it! (I keep my discord private so send me a friend request)

3. The best time to roam is when you've cleared a wave, vice versa if you're getting completely bodied and you're getting froze on, you can try to create plays elsewhere with your ult. Usually you decide on roaming when either an objective is spawning and you want to create a number disadvantage, or there is nothing else you can do and you're likely just going to be sitting in lane waiting for the next wave. Roaming can be as simple as getting deep vision, and the benefits from that wont come right away, but will definitely increase you/or your teams chances of surviving ganks, or making successful plays. You don't always have to roam with your R but having R will definitely make ganking lanes a lot easier.

Hopefully that helps!

Haykoo | January 20, 2022 7:00pm
Thanks for the roaming tips! Also, I figured out that Baus’s strat works because every time he dies, he always tries to get enough cs that his death gold is less than the amount he proxied. He just gets richer and richer when the opponent is only getting 100-52 gold.
