Ok, so me and a few friends have started playing League of Legends recently after it was recommended to me by another friend. We are completely new to these kinds of games (Didn't really play DoTa but have seen videos of it), but we still managed to pick gameplay up quite fast.

Up until level 10 we had around a 1.5/1 win loss ratio, which isn't to bad in my opinion for someone who started playing it recently, but as soon as we hit level 10 we've lost countless games in a row and won about 2.

Are we just unlucky in the teams we get put into or do you suddenly get put with people of a much higher level when you hit level 10?

Usually, it's easier from lvl 8 to 20. At lvl 20 people starts to get runes, and there are the smart ones who kept their IP so they ca be fully runned (a full page is 14-27k IP). This makes the difference between a "random player" and someone who had a look at builds, gameplay and gathered informations about the game.

The pick is also really problematic. I had a really great day yesterday from 11 AM to 15PM, and then, always was with damn dumb ***es and lost 4 games in a row (after a 5 wins :'( ). As ELO is statistic based (any real ranking should be), you will sometimes have real "hardcore gamers", just passing into your ranking and owning all that moves, and "hardcore players" who just play A LOT but always as a nut (to stay polite). Sometimes the 4 others are good and can carry the team to victory, sometimes game is tight and this wonderful man makes you lose.

From 1 to about 7, you often have people lvl 30 who created another account just to play against noobs to have fun after hard games they lost, so if you find someone really strong it may be what happened.

Maybe you just had a bad day, it happens (often ;)).

I agree with Tinaby

on <10 it is harder than 10-20. Due to smurf accounts.
Saving IP for runes is maybe a good idea but boring one :P I got at least my 10 fav champions before even thinking about getting runes. I got my 1st runes on lvl 30.

You dont NEED them, but it is a boost on som1 that has none equiped.

Treat your way to lvl 20+ as a learning curve. Try to play at least fiew games with all champions, even if you dont like them. This will let you learn his abilities and see weak and strong points.

Dont look at Win/Loss since it is a total random on <20lvl. You might get a newbie like you that never played games like this or total hardcore that spent 1/2 of his life playing DotA.

Learn Learn Learn. Have fun, you will stress out on ranked 30+ games :)

and most of all... DON'T FLAME during games! :)

Weve had bad games constantly, literally going against people who have some of the best champions (Twitch / Vlad stuff like that) and im on teams with people who are using free ones and are no good with them.

Its just aggravating losing like 6 games in a row without a glimpse of victory then winning 1 then losing 6 again.

best champion does not need to cost 6300 :P and Twitch is not "best" nor is Vlad.

That is why you have to learn learn learn to counter them. Twitch is a 400g investment and he is putted out of the game.

Vlad is strong due to his survivability but his damage is not that deadly as bursty Veigar or annie/ryze ones.

"Twitch is a 400g investment and he is putted out of the game."
Not that easy, but still necessary ^^ If an oracle can strictly disable an Eve (that's why she's not picked in high games), Twitch can still be usefull if he cares about who has one (you have to check all the time, all the game, from 1min30 to end), thanks to his range (just has to stay away from oracles, and buy one himself for wards).

"Vlad is strong due to his survivability but his damage is not that deadly as bursty Veigar or annie/ryze ones."
That's true in a burst fight. On a lane, his harassing is really anoying, and in a lvl 10 game, he should be better than an Annie or a Ryze badly played (it may take a very little skill to r/z/e/a/dead, it takes none to a--a--a/r/dead). I won't even talk abour Veigar, i'm near crying when i see how he's often played at lvl 30, so lvl 10 ...

No one could have said better than : "That is why you have to learn learn learn to counter them.". I would even say "That is why you have to learn, learn and learn again". On the characters, on the map utility, on teamplay/team arangement, on getting those damn good reflexes when something happens, on everything !

You saw an OP Vlad ? Remember his gameplay, pick Vlad, and try the same ! If you succeed, you will have some good times, if you fail, you will know how to counter him next time by looking at what your opponents do ! Experience is your best friend.

Sometimes there are people who make new accounts. The people who made new accounts might be level 30 and experienced. Maybe you encountered with some of them.

From what I'm reading, I gather that you usually play premade 5v5 with your friends but you never assemble a full team. Is this correct?

If so, this could be your problem. Matchmaking might be pairing you up with other bad players from the solo queue so you end up with a mishmash team versing a 5 man team that is working together and communicating well. Bad teamwork can be just as lethal as bad players.

Or maybe (not to be offensive or anything) you and your friends just aren't good enough and need to practice more? In this case I suggest you play some solo queue games and beef up on your skills. Solo queue can teach you a lot of things that you may not be able to learn from premade games.

You could've just been very unlucky, which is most likely the case. If so, you just gotta play on and learn from the experience.

If your arranging with mates, just so you know, you will be matched against other arranging teams. And then you are BOUND to end up in a smurf game, most of the time (High ELO players on a new account whacking lowbies).

All of this has been said before, but you really can't do anything about it.
However, if you just got owned by a Champion you believe is OP; If you can afford him / he's free / you already have him, jump in a practice game and try him/her out. You'll find his/hers weaknesses as well as strengths.

Practice makes perfect.

The best way to learn the game early from what I've seen (only 17 atm) is doing the 3v3 solo. I am really saving 5v5 for when I hit 20 and approach 30. There are a lot more things you have to be aware of and think about in 5v5, that for someone just starting out it will seem chaotic and you will lose a lot. I am not liking 5v5 because I group with some over 20 and that puts me in the next bracket with the mastery maxed and runes maxed players. I would stick with 3v3 until you are comfortable with a number of champions and the way the game plays.

ELO is used, though ELO is designed for two player games (like chess). It is probably the based option at the moment until something better comes along unfortunately. Even if you're really skilled, this is not a game where 1 player can just take on 3 and come out on top in most cases.
