What defines a tank for you?

I think the main criteria here is(in this order):

1. Strong, defining CC preferably on more than one ability.
2. Ability to not die.
3. Needs to do enough damage to be hard to ignore.
4. Needs to be able to initiate well for an instant teamfight advantage.

Interesting. Some similar concepts. So most people have a similar idea for a tank. Good to see.

You forgot Jarvan in your top list.

And you have actually seen a Vlad tank? I have seen some build tanky (and fail) but none that were really built as a tank. Which would of course fail regardless.

the problem with tanks is that they almost have to have a tank or huge AoE CC. i feel like some tanks classified as tanks aren't good enough at all a prime one being Moakai i hate people think he can tank like amumu or rammus. Yes he has 2 decent CC but his CC isnt great for a tank like amumu or cho gath or even sion. He IMO is a tanky dps along with many others classified as tank and can be ignored. Where if a cho gets in position where he silences and ruptures 3 of the enemy they have a great advantage. Or with amumu a good amumu ult stops the squishy from running and ults and allows his team to do work. But this is really just my way of ranting of Moakai.


there are very few good tanks imo like rammus, shen, amumu, cho gath, singed, malphite, galio, alister, blitz. There are only 3 true tanks IMO in the game rammus, shen, and amumu. For just the presence they have and the tankness(and maybe singed) the rest are more tanky dps but can be played very tanky

this is jump my opinion

Shen, Rammus, Galio are the only ones with taunt and shield. Amumu doesn't have either of those. I think Amumu is more damage based than he is tank, but those stuns are just awesome. He works almost exactly like Kennen, except you can actually take a beating with him (without requiring tank items). Like I said, there comes a point when the rest are just beefy supports or Off-tank/DPS.

Tank - Takes dmg for people, saves people, can intiate, and tank towers.

Offtank - Take dmg, intiate and tank a tower.

Example

Rammus versus Mundo
Mundo can become super tank and tank so much without getting close to dieing for example the other night I was 12/3 mundo and literally they couldn't kill me they could chase me from their Nexus to my base (and they did one time) and not kill me.

However if someone was with me I wouldn't have been able to save them like a Rammus could.
I could cleaver to my heart's content to slow but they could still kill who I was with.
A Rammus could at least stop a few for a few seconds. Alistair could knock them up. Shen could taunt multiple enemies for a small small (too small compared to Rammus' op insanity taunt) time and Malphite could knock them up if his ult is up. Etc Etc
Tanks work for the team.
Offtanks mostly work for theirself (they can help the team just not as much.)
(Also anyone who plays Mundo dps and not offtank is a fool)
