Reasons not to take mercury treads on Ashe:
1. They're too expensive. Ashe needs her gold to spend it on damage...and more damage, especially because her early game tends to be a bit weak anyway. She doesn't have a cheap item that boosts her damage to the sky, like Sheen does on Nasus.
2. Two silvers of magic res won't help. The only thing it's good for is for reducing the damage you take from magic harassment by about... 10%? Well, that's no good. You' be better off spending your money on a bit of lifesteal instead.
3. If you do get Mercs, you'll probably be the slowest character in the game. Unless you're a real boss at this game and you're able to slow everybody on the enemy team. If anybody leaves your range of fire, you'll be unable to catch up to him.
4. All other boots, except for Ninja Tabi and Sorcerer's Boots, are a better choice, because they help Ashe do more DAMAGE. ;)

this is just my opinion but you should be using good positioning to where you do not get caught and even if you do with merc treads u have more magic resist, which i think is important because this build should give you enough movment speed to where u can choose another boot than swiftness

mercs really don't add to her survivability. Once Ashe is caught, she's dead anyway, lol :p

i think boots choice just depends on the way playing ashe. it probably cant be said that or that is better.

you dont need swiftness in my opinion because of the 3 % movment speed in utilities phantom dancer and mercury treads you should have enough movment speed, so mercury treads would give you more survivability and 5% is only your base damage, which really is not a lot, it isnt 5 % + your items. thanks for the replies =D

and id say vuz ashe is a carry ad u better put all stats in masteries to get that last 5% more dmg.
and buying boots of swiftness is still better cuz 300 movespeed is way too less.

Lol, you're really that stupid? It says in the guide (ya know, the text beneath the build) to get EITHER Last Whisper OR The Black Cleaver, depending on the enemy team's armor.

However, I think it's best to always go for TBC (not the disease :D). TBC provides flat armor pen and LW percentual armor pen. I don't think it's Ashe's job to focus enemy tanks, so it's better to leave it at TBC. + It would be nice if you got a vamp scepter in there before getting the starks.

All in all, it's a good build, especially for new players (2 doran's).

EDIT: Oh, right, I forgot about the mercs. Why do you get those boots? They'll make you slow and Ashe is really squishy, so you can't afford to be caught at all. Get Boots of Swiftness man, speed is Ashe's defense. The only other worthy substitue would be zerkers, because Ashe's Volley gives you a strong speed advantage anyway.

I agree with mister bozo above this comment on getting the 5% dmg mastery. You got enough speed with your boots and zeal.
