The examples that are too big are to give a sense of my work....I tend to keep things much smaller than that.

I actually like to keep my text simple and relatively unedited, since the image should be the focus. I use a font that fits the image and usually fade it out (unless the image doesn't allow for that).

I've been using a combo of photo editing programs, and I'm generally happy with the effects I get. I do multiple layers when I feel the image needs it. Not all images need super complex effects and sometimes just one or two layers is enough.

I'm not sure why they need color correction, as all of the color effects were intentional and look exactly the way I wanted them to. But maybe I'm a total noob who isn't sure what you mean.

I'm not very proficient with GIMP yet, but I'm trying to work on my technique. I'm getting better...or at least I hope I am.

so you are working iwth GIMP, if so, i cant give any suggestions since i have never worked with GIMP. However i would recommend you to try Photoshop, you will find it more useful tool to edit photos.
Peace.

I have used Photoshop (all the computers at my high school had it), but it really is much too expensive. If I was going to spend that much money I'd rather get the full version of the music writing program I use, since I don't suck at music writing the way I suck at photo editing.

I may do that, but eventually it gets sort of annoying...so in the long term I will deal with what I have.

Not really, you have to download it once a month, and it isn't that big of a download.
