Poison damage is dealt through magic means. Just put MR on and you'll be good.
The damage usually isn't that much and only 4 champions can do it. One of them has to get up close to have it be on you. One champ has to hit you to effect you and it scales with AP, but not well.
For 2 of them, it's key to their kit. It's going to be there. Just deal with it.

If you're concerned about DoT's, it's basically Magic Damage. Like Lugi said, toss MR on, you should be fine. If you really need extra stuff, bring some HP Potions.
EDIT: Forgot to say, I honestly don't think they need to add ANOTHER stat to this game just for things that can easily be countered ;)

Better yet, what if there was a poison resistance stat? Kinda like armor or MR, but for poison damage. How would that change the game for certain champs?
