I prefer AP, you're not as solid of a tower killer but you do provide a lot of poke. You're also more seviceable in a team fight. AD has its merits but when you tele in on someone you have the ability to nuke them in 2 spells vs having to auto attack 3-4 times. Also means that any of your Pick a Cards are infinetly more valuable. Getting the stun card is nice but having someone try to tower dive you and you hit them with a blue card (frantic hitting of pick a card and u somehow miss your stun) and their HP dissappears is probably more intimidating because of the AP damage you do with that card. VS it's AD counter part which misses the stun card, hits them with a blue that does no damage and then dies.

But that's just my opinion.

AP

Better laning phase / farm. Can still backdoor effectively with Lich Bane procs. Doesn't have to sit dangerously close and auto attack because of his small attack range. Has good poke with Wild Cards before team fights start (and better aoe damage too). Can still blow up squishies, but tanks not so much, but leave that to the AD carry that is doing a better job than you would have as AD TF.

That. AP is also better in the lane game if he's good at aiming his wildcards. He harasses just by farming!

Someone told me that a recent patch messed up the AD scaling of his auto attack, so building AP is probably better until that's adjusted, besides, there are better AD carries than TF. If you're building him AD then your entire goal is just to BD turrets

Random side note. TSM's (Team Solo Mid's) game against EG (Epik Gaming) featured a rare treat, TF not being banned. He (Twisted Fate) was played by Reginald (Brother to Dan Dinh of EG). Reginald did not do very well though TSM did win, the suprise was the fact that he built TF AP, though he did not preform well it was due to EG's clever counter to him. But the counter did not win them the game....In short one of the top rated NA (North American) LoL players in the world prefers AP TF over AD.

He didn't do very well because the other team made it a point to shut him down early, but I laughed hard when he almost threw the match by teleporting into their fountain as they were trying to push a turret.
Thanks to GrandMasterD for my sig!

I say......build him however you like. I build him AD, guess what I still do well. I build him AP, and I still do well. I fit the team comp whenever I play TF. If I see my entire team is AP (like i did last night. Eve, kat, taric.) I'm like okay fine I'll go AD guess what we won that game.

If Reignald goes and plays AP Fate, what effect does that have on the rest of the TFs? Nothing they still can play him however they want, and it still works. PERIOD.

I love AP TF tbh. Imo one of the major flaws for TF is his relative short range (on autoattack and cards). Wild Cards on the other hand has a very big range. Now if you're wild cards do massive damage you can get their team crippled before the actual teamfight starts.

With a Lichbane you still rape towers. You still stun people (though a bit shorter since you level wild cards first) and you're able to be the guy standing in the back doing massive damage when people are just harassing each other a bit.

I'd recommend you check out my hybrid build. It's all about lots of damage, starting with burst damage early for quick ganks and kills and building strong DPS later with lots of AD and AP while keeping AS reasonably quick (usually 1.4-1.6 is good). Definitely go both, focusing purely on AD or AP means you'll be ignoring one of his 3 non-ultimate abilities. Having all 3 available is a new level of powerful. Better yet, friend me in game (same name as on the forum) and I'll give you a demonstration :)
Just wrote up a new Hybrid Twisted Fate build -check it out!
