I'm level 15, so far I've earned around 8.5k IP. My question is, how big is the XP and thus IP curve over the next 5 and 15 levels?

I know that there are alot of variables that go into IP earnings, including the types of games played and wins/losses, but a ballpark idea would be great!

I'm currently saving IP for runes, but I'd like to pick up a few heros along the way. I want to save plenty of IP for runes at 20+, but I really have no idea how much IP I'll be gaining as I level.

Also, how much IP do you recommend budgeting for runes?

There is no IP curve.
The XP curve gets bigger of course but nothing outlandish where you look at it and think to yourself "******** it Im going to be here for months..."

Thanks!
I found the guide on runes, so that part of my question is pretty well answered:

So how much IP do you think is average to earn before lvl 20/30?

That really depends. If you do a ton of 3v3, you will get less IP due to shorter games. If you play a carry it seems, your IP will be higher if you are "successful" ie. getting a lot of kills. That's just what I've seen anyway.

I think IP gain per game is roughly based on:
Per minute
Kills
Deaths
Your wins to losses
How well you defended your towers

Im sure there are more, but it just seems that when these things are high you get more IP than if its a close game.
Could be wrong and if anyone actually knows the true IP formula PLEASE post here as Id love to understand it.

All I know is that after a loss streak, you gain more IP for a win.

I make sigs, PM me if you want one :D (Thanks for the Nidalee sig, The_Nameless_Bard!)

Typical formula:
76 IP for a win at or before 25 minutes, plus a little more than 2 IP per minute to a maximum of 144 IP at 55 minutes.
52 Ip for a loss at or before 25 minutes, plus 1.4 IP per minute to a maximum of 94 IP at 55 minutes.

This varies if they surrender.

If you want to look at a graph, only look at the new IP system, this was back when they changed it from old to new.

Damn helpful, Zep, +rep for that.

@MasterOink: If you haven't spent ANY IP at all by the time you hit 30, expect to have around 20,000 IP. There was a thread that Adonikam posted that talks about how you can buy two full top-tier rune sets and 10 top-tier champions for just the 20,000 IP you get by saving until level 30, but I can't find the link now.

Pretty sure the runes you could/should buy at that point were GP10 quints, MagPen/ArmPen marks, Armor/Flat MP5 seals, and some blue I can't remember.

Thank you to jhoijhoi for the sig, and all the dividers in the guide.

Two games is worth rouchly 150 IP, this along with the first win of the day bonus can get you an easy 300 IP per day. That adds up to 2100 IP per week (which will earn you a quint), so if you're patient, it actually builds up relatively quickly. If you're ever on a losing streak and you're having trouble getting first win of the day just play a quick coop vs. AI game, which will usually net you about 50 IP. Of course this is just a minimum, playing two games a day is pretty easy, and if you've got a lot of free time to farm IP you can get an easy 500-700 in a day, which will get you one rune. I also recommend buying all the 450 IP champs, since you can basically get a new champ per day and many of the 450 champs are strong contenders in upper levels of play.
