I got a question about the new patch, i was never sure what unique passive meant. Now that both HoG and Phil stones gold benefits are Unique passives does it mean i cant stack 1 HoG and 1 Phil stone together? Or i cant stack 2 HoG and/or 2 Phil stones

You can have one of each of the 4 Gp5 items and have all of their effects. But you can't have more than one of each and get the gold benefit. A HoG and a philo is ok, 2 philo's is not. However, the stats on philo stones are so good that you might see people still building two anyway.

Unique passive means if you have 2 of the SAME item you will only get one of the passives and they dont stack.
HoG and Phil are 2 different items so they stack.
The passive maybe the same but you go off the item name.

it's not that simple though, the extra mana from tear of the goddess doesn't stack with the mana boost from archangel staff. And the extra minion damage chance from madred's razor doesn't stack with wriggle's lantern

Because they are the "same" item.

...they're clearly different items, do you mean to say that it's a different case because one builds into the other?

Yes, its the "same" item.
When you have AA the reason it wont stack with Tear is because you already "have" a tear.
The tear is what is giving the AA its passive.

no, the passive on AA and tear are slightly different, the tear gives you 4 mana per spell twice per 6 second period. The tear gives you 4 mana per spell on a 3 sec cooldown. The 15% cooldown reduction of glacial shroud doesn't stack with the 20% cooldown reduction of frozen heart even though they are different passives. The item contributes to its passive, but they are generally not the same. I know I'm nitpicking, but the word "UNIQUE" is starting to adopt various unclearly defined meanings depending on items.

Sure your nit picking and there will be different things. But for someone that is new, I assume you are, that is a good theory to go off of.
Im sure now that the next item patch it will get changed around because we talked about this and this poor guy is going to get confused and possibly punch an infant, but hey.
