But then you wouldn't give the authors time to rework the guide...
they shouldn't have to rewrite the whole guide just for something like this.
Let's say Z's Ring was still in game and this system was in action and tomorrow Z's gets split into Deathcap and Hourglass...
Removing the item and fixing some text in the items section and maybe some math reworks shouldn't call for an immediate archive...give the author some time to fix it before the archive...you don't need to make a whole new guide just because of the rework, just a few minutes fixing some text and maths and presto you are done...
also doing this, encouraging totally NEW guides for major reworks...I don't think is a good idea. People spend a lot of tears and blood over writing their guides, and all of a sudden a change happens and they have to write a new one?
You should give a one week period to make all guide changes...I don't think ANY rework would require A TOTAL GUIDE REMAKE.
I mean, you still have the sections with summoner spells, skilling order, etc that would still be legit...
I think, after a major change, immediately send all authors of that/those affected champions a PM saying you have one week or so to make appropriate updates. If these are not done (mods/vets can check, takes 2 seconds to see if a major rework is updated or not), then the guide will be up for (public?) voting for archiving.
Doing it your way would piss many people off. Personally I would be ****ing pissed if the day a Kat change comes, I might be away, I come back and my guide with 1 million views is archived and I'm told to make a new one...or make all appropo changes before allowing unarchival again...give a week or so for this to happen.
And also...can't someone who is lazy/against this system and want some time to make changes like I am saying just simply unarchive their guide if it is force archived...?
should there be an amount of time the guide is like, "lock archived" before unarchival is allowed...?
however doing this would not allow people who want to rework and republish their archived guides quickly unable to release it right away...

That's not what I meant at all...
I just think that you should have to actually be online and update your guide. No one's perfect so, no matter how little a champion might change, they should be doing some proofreading and such anyways.
I update my guides every few weeks or so at least, even if all I do is change an image or some wording, because I know I'm not perfect and something I built/thought/said a month ago isn't always what I would build/think/say now.
However you wanna warn people who don't and how long you give them to update doesn't matter to me, I just wanna see an upkeep requirement.

I was responding to Jebus...............................
your post appeared while I was typing so I didn't even see it....
and what you were saying is, as just said before, already in place...if a guide hasn't been touched for 2 months it will be archived...so obviously if someone doesn't log in for two months +, their guides will be archived.
EDIT: wait Jebus you mention "the current system"...however I see guides and builds that haven't been touched for months still up...(Shen out of ****ing nowhere for instance)...(most of HeAt's stuff another example...)

So basically if I were to decide to only log in every two months and change a single image on my guide it would remain in the same place without being archived?
Wow....
Wow....
Of course there'd be a time period where authors are allowed to update their guide but if they don't do it within a certain time frame then the build should be archived.
So basically if I were to decide to only log in every two months and change a single image on my guide it would remain in the same place without being archived?
Wow....
Of course not. If the change is significant enough then the guide would also have to make significant changes and if they aren't made then the author should be punished by having their guide archived.

oh well maybe the current system hasn't even been implemented
i know i had to manually archive "morgana prime" a few weeks ago, which still had Z-Ring on it and hadn't been touched for months
hmmm
Still, think about it this way. You made a guide on the current Kat. Let's say that Riot says "No, we don't like this champion. We're going to redesign her because we don't like how she's being used currently." A remake for Kat comes out that now renders your guide obsolete. No amount of changing the guide will change the fact that you wrote that guide on an old version of the champion and the score is based on that.
As you said, champion-revolutionizing remakes don't come around all too often. Gangplank and Ryze are examples. We won't have to do this much, but I feel like when we do, 2 months is FAR too long of a time period - hell, even 2 weeks is too long.

What if the champion has not been changed?
Regardless of actual changes to any one champion, people should be editing their guides because play-styles change...and no one's play-style is "perfect" anyways.

But as of right now yes bard that is right. Many people don't know about this current/coming soonTM system so they won't know to update just a picture.
It is still better than nothing, and is the most practical way to go about this since the only other way would be having mods/vets go through EVERY GUIDE (hundreds of thousands on the site?) to check for their updatedness (lol new words ftw)...
and to Jebus
so let's say they remove Shunpo (which they won't :P)
and my whole guide revolves around Shunpo (it does to some aspect)
I still wouldn't want my guide to immediately be archived...
I have around 10 generic sections that Shunpo wouldn't even effect...I don't wanna spend time retyping/repasting them in to a new guide...
and for the sections that mention Shunpo, give me a week and I will come up with a new build, write descriptions for the new items I put in, and rework all of the stats...while keeping my guide with current score and comments.
I think the score should stay even for a major rework, because even if the score was for the old description of the guide, it is STILL the same guide, same author, same champ...so you know that if it was reliable before, if the author makes appropriate changes within a week or so, it will still be reliable and should still hold that score...not have to go through the whole process again to prove its validity.
and what is your opinion on

You need to log in before commenting.
If the author hasn't been online for more than 4 or 5 months their guide should be archived because people who regularly update their guides are more deserving of that spot in the top.
There should be polls or something for this also.
