Teleport is another great spell for amumu, good point.
Clarity??? OMGWTFBBQHAX??? Not a problem on amumu, dude... you're not a dps caster. You're a tank.
You generally want to avoid
Also, change your masteries. Perseverance is ****. Talk to Searz about it, I don't have the math copy and pasted somewhere...
Yeah, I changed the clarity thing and took flash over it way more useful. As for the masteries i changed those as well. As for Aegis the support in my 5's usually grabs that so i find it way more useful to get a warmog's but I probably should have been more specific about that, my bad. As for ghost I honestly do not know what made me take that over something else but I do like it but I've noticed i switch it outwith Teleport alot of the time in 5's games.
I suggest you to at least care about MR a little earlier on.
Greed is lame. Do your calculations. Its barely useful.
Good hands > Perseverance. Almost every guide says that, and your regen isn't godly anyway.
Sunfire is a shyt stats item. 35damage per second, but are you even sure you stay close all the time? And the stats is worse, 1/3 of Thornmail and Warmog combined, and 1/2 the price.
Dodge? What is the point of dodging if your main damage source is Tantrum, followed by Despair? Tantrum is faster each time you get hit.
Gold items that you use later anyway should be gotten first. You could save up to 1k depending on the scenario.
Mobility? Tabi and Merc threads are better for tanks.
The little thing to replace needed mana is called Banshee's Veil or Frozen Heart. Thats way more than enough from my experience.
Bandage toss at level 3 is really late. Despair at level 2? You aren't NCing, so those creeps and champs don't have that high hp. Bandage toss shift to the front will be better.
Hope it helps.
Yeah I changed greed and went into good hands as well, good point and it was well taken. As for sunfire cape i like it because of the fact that it will help me clear out creep waves even faster and also, yes I would be staying in that close to any enemies because all of my abilities are melee range(excluding bandage toss of course) and i would be the initiator. As for dodge i only have 2% in the defense tree because there was nothing else to really go into so i just took that up. As for the Mobility Boot's i do see your point in the merc treads but i find it more useful to be able to move around faster then have tenacity because of the fact that i can return to my lane faster and gank without really losing any time at all in my lane. Though your note on merc treads was well taken and I do use them on a team with too much CC. And I do suggest getting a Banshee's veil in the items under certain circumstances. Though I have never tried out Frozen heart but seeing its stats it looks like it could be REALLY REALLY nice. I will try this! Bandage Toss at level 3 being too late? lolwut? I'm going to be honest here not to make fun of your opinion but I laughed a bit when I saw that. You will have no need for it at level 1 or 2 because you cannot kill creeps with it and it has a 15 sec CD. I pick it up at level 3 just because I now have a reliable stun and ganking spell. And getting to level 3 would only take about 3-3:30 mins into the game so it's not too long of a wait.
Hmm... If you have the runes, I'd recommend you jungle. I'd say that in high level play, just about 99% of all Amumu's jungle, and for a good reason. His early game leaves something to be desired in lane, and he's one of the fastest junglers. If your top lane can survive, it has the added benefit of dual solo lanes. The constant mia is scary for laners, and you can get more kills by ganking. Also, the majority of Amumu junglers start at blue buff, so after that, it's pretty fun to just spam all your moves, and clarity becomes unnecessary. ;P
However, if you are totally bent on laning with clarity, you should DEFINITELY take the mastery point in it. Your laning partner will love you. Without it, it doesn't give much mana to allies, but with it, it gives quite a lot.
Most of what Keels said is quite valid, and I'd especially point out what he said about being un-killable. Tanks are supposed to eat up damage, but if you're too tanky, the other team will just completely ignore you. Careful about that.
Oh, and maybe you could use boots of mobility because you were so tanky, but mercury treads are generally considered the better choice. Extra mr, AND the most tenacity of any item in the game. Boots of mobility might be more viable in a jungling amumu, as you could gank faster and more frequently.
He does jungle as amumu its depends on our team comp.

Barely useful is an overstatement.. It's nothing more than a waste of a mastery point.
