My guess is that it's because of the low cool down of the heal. With enough cool down reduction, you can take it down to around four seconds, so with enough AP it can make some difference. Although at early levels it's almost useless at saving a team mate's life...especially with ignite.

As Sona you have to utilize all her stances according to the situation, and her heal is average.
In some situations you can save your allies with her slow/speed buff better than with her heal.

Probably because people are still latched onto her original AP ratios. She used to have a .5 on the heal which isn't that bad for a low-cooldown skill. But once they nerfed Sona's healing, she was no longer the super heal-bot that she once was. She's all about the
Power Chord utility and aura buffs now.

Yeah, her speed buff is GREATLY underrated, it pretty much means that your team will almost always be able to catch running enemies and escape when being chased. The slow effect of E + power chord is pretty nice too.
She also does some pretty good burst damage early game if you charge up her Q power chord before leaving the fountain. If you can Q + power chord a squishy carry straight away it'll take off a big chunk of their health.
Oh, and her ultimate is one of the best teamfight ultimates in the game.
Also I heard Shurelia say in a post that Sona's heal was the worst example of a heal in the game, so it's probably going to get 'reworked' (nerfed to oblivion) in the healing 'rework'.

Haha Riot should call these re-works, nerfs with a different look :) .
Sona's still a support and regardless of the validity of her heal, the important thing is that it's still a heal. It's on a short cooldown and that's enough to keep your AD carry alive in a fight. Sure, her main strength and appeal is her AoE stun ultimate and the extra damage/utility she can pump out, but her heal is absolutely invaluable for early game. Sona is one of the best sustain/babysitting supports out there at the moment because of how versatile she is in all phases of the game, while still keeping you alive as an AD carry.





I never said her heal was bad, it's not by any means.

I mean, her heal is not that great. It even needs lvl 6 for the hp of the heal to surpass the manacost.¨
She can't direct it to who she feels is most important in a fight, even though it heals 2 instead of taric one. nah, I don't buy it. And I play quite a bit of Sona.
A great support she is, but not the great healer!
