Hi

I recently bought cho'gath and tested him out when the idea struck me about building him as a dps by using vorpal spikes. the idea is that u use your normal attack and vorpal spikes to deal damage.

here is my build that i have used

mana crystal and 2 hp pots (begin building RoA and giving u good sustainability in lane)

catalysm - normal boots - Rod of ages - berserker greaves ( for attack speed as it means more auto attacks and more vorpal spikes)

guinsoo's rageblade (gives u both ad and ap and the passive works good too)

- hextech gunblade ( same as rageblade, botha ad and ap and the life steal and spell vamp is a welcome bonus along with the active on it)

- frozen mallet/rylais crystal scepter (the slow is very good on cho and the extra hp makes u even more tanky along with some more ad/ap)

- malady/nashor's tooth/black cleaver/rabadons deathcap/hextech gunblade ( i am not sure what item to take here)

so what do u think? with this u deal both magic and physical damage meaning that u are hard to counter with armor/mr and u have alot of hp to ( about 4000 with five items and 6 stacks on lvl 3 ulti)

the idea is not to out dps the ones like trynda and master yi but giving u a more tanky way of dealing damage.

just for checking i also looked at what would happen if u compare my build to that of a full ap cho when it comes to using auto attacks and vorpal spikes to deal damage. (these calculations use malady as the last item on both builds).

ap build

RoA - berserker's greaves/sorceress boots - rylais - rabadons - zhonyas hourglass - malady

Damage per attack calculations

chogaths normal attack at lvl 18 without any items are 129.70

ap build

total ap 80 + 80 + 140 + 100 + 25 = 425 425 * 1,3 = 552.5

total ad 130

vorpal spikes does 80 + 552.5 * 0.3 = 80 + 165.75 = 245.75 = 246 magic damage per attack

ad 130 + ap 246 = total 376 damage per attack

my build

total ap 80 + 45 + 75 + 25 = 225

total ad 130 + 35 + 60 + 20 = 245

vorpal spikes does 80 + 225 * 0.3 = 147.5 = 148 magic damage per attack

ad 225 + ap 148 = total 373 damage per attack

as u see the difference is minimal and the ap build does not have the effect of rageblade which increases magic damage and attack speed a bit, i also don't know if malady is really neccesary and then i must say that my build would benefit more from example another hextech or rabadons than the ap build would from for example void staff or abyssal scepter. the better thing about the ap build is that it can be used as a nuker instead.

i hope to get your opinion on the build overall and also on the items that i am not sure about, frozen mallet or rylais? which one is the best for cho'gath and what last item should i have on my build? i don't know if the attack speed of malady is necessary, i think it would be better to have another hextech gunblade or possibly a rabadons.

He's melee. He'll need a ton of durability..
Build him like a tank with Wit's End. That's an awesome tanky DPS item.

You'd probably need Frozen Mallet ASAP. Mallet/atma's might work

Either way it's a really funky build lol.

You are gonna get instagibbed with that build ;).

A RoA core with a fast Wit's End is great. Does not really need anything more than that for damage. Throw in a Deathcap if you feel brave.

instead of building pure hybrid, I would focus on a shredding build similar to what you might see on kog or teemo. But rush frozen mallet and wit's end as said before, then instead of a rageblade or a gunblade, I would get malady or madred's.
Ghost/exhaust or flash/exhaust would probably be your best choice for this set up, you need a way to stick to your opponent during the early game if you're heavily reliant on your auto attack

well i personally don't see why i would build it like a shreeder since there is much better characters for that with higher attack speed or better ways to get attack speed (like kogmaw as u mentioned). this build is not focused at a really high attack speed, as i said i don't even know if maladys are needed when it comes to the attack speed bonus. the idea is to do quite high dps with ur auto attacks and vorpal spikes while still being tanky ( not a tank but not as squishy as master yi and the likes).

first off what do u mean with instagibbed? and then why don't i need damage? i guess u mean that i should instead build tank items like force of nature or so but i don't see why? i mean this is a dps build. with RoA, wits end and rabadons u get quite good burst damage but it won't work for this purpose, i mean sure u have enough ap for vorpal spikes but no ad which means that u will have quite lower dps since ur ad will be low and ur ap will be a little better than medium resulting in low - medium dps

Wit's end is the only attack speed item you need. Anything more will be a waste of gold... No need to build AD on a hero that doesn't scale at all with AD...
If you wanna have a good build... Prob all out hybrid dps wont work... Just saying

DPS Cho is really funny. It's not entirely practical because of how fast you die but, Wit's End and Nashor's Tooth work really well if you're looking for items on him.

Thank you to jhoijhoi for the sig, and all the dividers in the guide.
