It was a joke.
Attempting to insinuate that (even though it is a game played on pen and paper) it was "patching" to further discourage Lug from attempting to switch to any other game he might have available to him. I could have suggested Chess, or Checkers perhaps? To achieve the same affect and not confuse you?
