Cloth+pots if you're ganking early. Vamp Scepter otherwise.
Big wolf->Golem->2 small wolves->wraiths->red(you might have to skip red without perfect runes if you get vamp scepter)->golems
Build Warmog's Armor->Atma's Impaler->Trinity Force
I usually build Heart of Gold after wriggle and boots.
Perfect runes would be Armor pen marks, armor seals, MR/lvl glyphs and AD quints.
I'm running 1/8/21 masteries on him. He can go into offense too, but utility is better in most cases.

I've written a guide on this guy, and in Season 1 won 5/6 ranked games with him. It's not much proof but I can tell you firmly that I know this champion well enough to have an effective build for him and such.
It depends on your runes/masteries and what you're planning to go do with your items, but on Trundle you should always start vamp scepter. Vamp scepter with his bite on his Q and his passive is more than enough. With a defensive mastery spec you'll clear camps without even hardly losing your HP. By the end of the jungle you'll actually be gaining HP slowly.
The ONLY exception to this is if you're really scared about the counter invade. They have Nunu or maybe Shaco, and you suspect you're gonna find them in your jungle. PErsonally, I'd still probably go the Vamp scepter. Saving that extra 150 gold really does make a huge difference for a jungler early on. Faster Wriggles allows you to threaten Dragon earlier as well. You can often times get a ninja dragon because they didn't ward it fast enough. Trundle can solo it at level 6 with wriggles.
After wriggles, evaluate your team. If there's lots of damage champions and they don't need help killing things (And they aren't feeding) You might buy Frozen Mallet. If you yourself are weak or got ganked, buy the Frozen mallet instead of TriForce.
Did you get a few kills, have to hold a lane or two and you got solo lane farm for a few waves? Got a few kills? Build towards the Triforce instead. Start Phage, it helps you when ganking much more than Sheen, and you'll get HP and damage out of the deal to boot. Then I'd build the Zeal, unfortunately. I used to do Sheen first but I learned over the course of many games it's not worth it until you just buy the whole Triforce as one item.
After that, Chain mail and Negatron Cloak. There's a variety of builds from this point that work, but you'll be somewhat tanky, have good damage. Works nice.
Any questions you have, feel free to PM me or check my guide.

**** no.. That's just dumb.
Early ganks (Trundle is amazing at those btw) become very risky with Vamp Scepter. If you're counter jungled you're just dead meat.
Also: Utility>Defense because it makes you faster at jungling and less reliant on blue buff.

Yay for good reasoning! (you fail)
Oh and Offense>Defense because it makes you faster and makes it safer while defense only makes it safer. So defense is just fail on Trundle.

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnope.
Defense allows for a pretty much full HP clear when using Vamp scepter.
You've never even tried it, so you don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about.
Hence my casual dismissal of your instant judgement remark. It's not worth spending time to explain something to a person who's already got their mind made up sometimes.
Also your sarcastic wording of the things you say make you unpleasant to discuss these things with, so I don't bother half the time.

I've tried defense before. It was fail.
Give me your exact masteries so I can prove you wrong :P

Don't take me so seriously when I say things like "fail" and blahblahblah.
Just give good reasoning and I'm all for discussing.
Oh, and don't talk to me about having made up my mind. You're way more hardheaded than me :P

I like a 14/13/3 on Trundle.
I'm very hard headed when I've personally experienced / tried things. I experimented with all kinds of start items on Trundle and jungled him a lot of different ways.
With these particular masteries and a vamp scepter, you don't ever have to base if you don't want to/get forced out, quite literally. I've made my first base with 3k gold before, because I was able to gank and get a kill, and my jungle was ready to be cleared again, so I cleared it and ganked and got another kill, and simply repeated that cycle over and over again. As you level up your bite, you will start to actually -gain- health from your camps at around level 5 I believe it was instead of losing them.
This is only true with proper masteries and runes, of course.
Edit; I forgot to mention Strength of Spirit helps a lot too.

I've really started to love his gameplay. Quick jungle time, quality ganks.
But I am curious how most of you build him?
1) Start with cloth armor/pots or vamp scepter?
2) What is your most typical jungle route?
3) After wriggle's, do you go for TriForce or Frozen Mallet?
4) If Triforce, do you start off w/ sheen or phage?
5) What items do you recommend after this? I understand it is situational, but typically more offensive or defensive? Any specific "core" items?
Thanks!
