With this is as my chosen topic, is rape an okay thing to write a story about?
O_O'
That depends do you have mostly girls in your class that are easily offended? Do you have any rape victims in your class? Is there a pedobear staring at you from the corner of the room?
Uhh check your audience then make your choice. Are you giving this as a report?

I don't know. It will only be read by the lecturer. Basically in Australia Indigenous Australians were prosecuted in a lot of different ways, rape included. Basically I was going to write a story from the point of view of a female Aborigine and have her raped. She will then kill the rapee. This idea is based upon the novel that will accompany this creative aspect - The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (based on a true Australian story) where Jimmie is shafted again and again by white people, and then goes on a murdering spree.
Basically I was intending to make the story more "modernised" and write it from the perspective of a female, and give reasons why SHE would feel the need to kill someone.

*sigh*
I just don't want to write mainstream **** about Aborigines working for less than a dollar an hour and call that the "power" of white men. I'd rather write about a darker side, but apparently people can't stomach the idea of rape and murder, even if it is completely fictional and doesn't describe things in detail.

I know and it sucks.
But if you feel that you can write "unpolitical correct" story about it. For the love of god go for it!
But you have to be on your A game. Or it will bite you in the ***.
Controversial stuff is the best stuff. At least in my opinion, just sucks that people can't be accept it most of the time.

Jhoijhoi this is your story, so you write about whatever. If you want to show the darker side that is fine. dive! dive! dive!
We're just offering advice and suggestions. Now before you have your rape victim kill the guy, check out some rape trauma cases to see how rape victims often react after being raped.

^basically I was trying to flip it from the actual novel.
Novel:
- time period 90s
- written from the perspective of an Aboriginal male
- man is shafted again and again for being Aboriginal
- finally snaps and kills people for their misdeeds
My take:
- time period 1950s
- written from the perspective of an Aboriginal female
- girl is ridiculed in school, upset with life, etc
- finally straw is when she's raped
- kills the man who raped her

So this for school? I say go for it but then again I don't really care for school much. If you're trying to please people then they prefer not hearing about the taboo. I wouldn't be too afraid about upsetting people.
Heck it upset's me when people lack creativity trying not to upset people.
Well ok so I don't get upset really but eh.
