Well, idk. I think, champs, which spam abilities, can use it better than others. But 40 start gold can give you a different start item or doran's+pot. If you get
Doran's Shield + pot you will have more sustain than
Cloth Armor + 6 pots.^^

dunno about WHY you did the math behind that.
Even while playing Anny you`ll LAST HIT creeps, meaning you'll hit creeps which HP is way lower than your actual dmg.
Not quite sure about this, but since you`ll only heal yourself off mitigated dmg, you wont reg for the full amount, if the targets life didnt match up to it.
Even so: Only counting last hits youll never reach the amount of hp youll reg with 1pot + the time you have to wait for ALL waves to come.
Soooo... only while harassing enemy champs spell vamp is actually worth sth, but even so you will mostly receive some dmg in return making 1 pot more viable.

ye spellvamp won't be noticeable until you stack it with other items and your numbers start to rise.

The point really is just to get a rough estimate of whether you are bursting enough to take spell vamp or not during the laning phase. Also to the person who suggested spell vamp helping during a fight, really not so much. Let's say you land a full
Summon: Tibbers stun with
Annie for some insane amount like 3k, 3000*.03= 90 health, which is absolutely nothing. In late game the gold is way better than the spell vamp, especially for bursters for whom it benefits the most. That 60 health will not make or break anything for a squishy.

it's a decent amount of sustain that wasn't available before but yeah, it's kinda low if your not harassing your opponent hard. I haven't done the math yet but prob it's better to go into greed and grab a health pot with the extra cash unless your overkilling last hits like Karth/Annie/Ryze.
So I checked it out:
You need 4 points to get out of that level of the tree so you'd need to grab one point in greed anyway, they remaining 3 gives you 1.5 g/10 which is 3.8 minutes to buy a pot which restores 200 health. By chris' annie estimation of 30 health/creep wave that means it is the seventh creep wave that makes spell vamp more effective. The break even rate for creep wave spawn is one creep wave/ 32 seconds... they are every 30 seconds. Which is nearly even. So reversing that...
The Nuts and bolts:
Health pot is 200 health for 35 gold.
35 gold / 1.5 gold per 10 seconds = 23.33*10 sec = 233 seconds or 3.8 minutes.
There are 233seconds/30 seconds/creep wave =7.6 creep waves
7.6 waves * 6 minions + 1*(7.6/3)[to add cannon minions]= on average 49 minions.
200 health in a health pot/49 minion = 4.08 health regen/minion
divide that by .03%= 136 damage per minion kill to break even on spell vamp vs. greed assuming you get every last list... or
143 per kill assuming a 95% last hit percentage, which I think is a reasonable amount of last hit % for competitive play.
The Point:
If you last hit @ less then 136-143 damage per minion you're better off with the 3 points in greed, rather than 3 points in spell vamp.
I trust you can figure out how much you hit a minion for.
