Not a friend to friend post, but a respect I have for someone who is organized, aims higher, and practices, gfxer to gfxer.
You know whats funny, before I read what you said I was thinking, he got better with his composition. Keep up the practice. I hope you don't mind but I want to point something out. The render is terrible though, and blending isn't done to well, some of it has to do with the white outline on her head and how its pitch black after the sudden white..

This might just be me but, I don't like either of them...
First one, I think she looks bright. (only because you pointed it out)
Second one, I feel like there is something wrong with it but I can't quite put my finger on it...
I think it's that she doesn't blend well enough with the background. But I'm not sure really. :/

Trying out some different stuff. This is nothing amazing but I wanted to share with all of you, seems to be a trend to post outside your own shop now o.O.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Perhaps the render is a tad too bright. I didn't try to use a light source either. I mainly focused on composition...Going with the center was risky but I think I pulled it off.
EDIT2: Darkened the render a bit, might work on it more when I have time.
