Am I wrong to think it's generally a good idea to have one person jungling?

I've been playing Olaf and using him to jungle because, quite frankly, vicious strikes and a vampiric scepter allow me to be pretty effective at it even at level one. I pay attention to the map and generally rack up kills by taking advantage of harrasing. And yet, right from the get go, whenever I start jungling with Olaf people say 'don't jungle' or 'Olaf stop jungling'.

I'm only level 11 and this is my first time playing a MOBA that isn't DotA. So, I could very well be wrong, but it seems to me like the strategic and economic value of early game jungling has been instrumental in me winning almost every game I play as Olaf because nobody else at my level seems to jungle. It gives our team an edge, especially when I hit level 11 and can generally solo the dragon.

So, should I be jungling (particularly when nobody else is) or not?

You're getting the gist of level 30 games. Tat said, until you get at least 50% of your games with an opposing jungler. Most people can't handle a 2v1 lane and will mostly ask you to stop.

It`s cause people at your level havem`t realised the jungle exists yet :o
They`ve also yet to discover the magical power of wards!

That being said, though he is extremely sustainable in the jungle, Olaf is a better solo top than a jungler, because you can`t abuse how OP your E is early in the jungle. Though, like you said, no one jungles at that level, so you really won`t get a chance to solo top til later.

It is good you`re learning how higher level games are played early though. You`ll already have knowledge of all this stuff when it`s expected of you. Though, you might end up getting too ahead of your level, and get frustrated with the baddies you`re sure to come by :c

Yes, having a jungler is essential to winning once players gain more experience. You'll often find at your level though the person who goes top won't be able to handle two players on his own.

Make sure you take Smite and gank your team's lanes if you aren't already.

Pretty sure he takes smite and is ganking lanes.. Otherwise he is just derping around in the jungle by himself. lol

However, some people think just because a certain champ CAN jungle with out smite they SHOULD jungle without smite-- and that, my good sir, is stupid. I yell at these people and call them bad. It's pretty much saying: "I'M GONNA GIVE THE OTHER JUNGLER MORE JUNGLE CONTROL, EASY BUFF STEALS, A FASTER JUNGLE WHICH EQUATES TO MORE GANKS AND ALL FOR AN EXTRA SUMMONER BECAUSE I NEED MORE OF A CRUTCH FOR 1V1."
That's all that means.

I see it with shaco and warwick. And I've raged so hard at some of these people they ended up picking smite in champ select after arguing with me and me explaining how bad they are. trollololo

The main reason why not taking Smite is bad is Baron and Dragon. If you don't take Smite, you forfeit all control over them and can't safely do either of them unless the whole other team is dead.

It's a big reason, but I think just as big a reason as jungle control and early jungling.

Most junglers don't need it for early jungling, and while it is useful for controlling blue/red buff it's fairly uncommon that someone tries to steal blue/red while you are there. Even if they do manage to steal something, it doesn't screw over your game all that badly.

If you lose a Baron, however, it's often gg. And you will lose it without a Smite on your team.
