As for the cnc
I can clean up the dots on his chin that was my smudge brush goin cwazey. And over all it was a combination of smudging/gradients/clipping masks/brushes to generate the whole thing. And I don't see the over sharpness. And what "dots everywhere" are you seeing? Apparently I missed a lot during the clean up process :(
