looks pretty good.
CnC:
-The lighting layer is too strong and probably needs to have its opacity lowered (or you could put a black layer on overlay over the top of the whole thing. right now the lighting it a little too bright in my opinion, making the colors look a little dull and pale.
-I would try making the text a little smaller and put it closer to your focal. you could also play with using a clipping mask for it (that will make it blend a little better with the rest of the sig).
-I would download some brushes, they allow you to put some really nice textures on things.
here are some I would recommend trying:
- http://www.brusheezy.com/Brushes/17364-Free-Explosion-Brushes
- http://www.brusheezy.com/Brushes/18847-Ultimate-Brush-Pack-5
hope this was helpful
I would totally take your advice..... if only people made tutorials for people that just started using photo editing programs.....so I can understand what the heck is going on....

Try applying it as a different layer mode, like Hue or Color, and then play with the opacity.

I usually only use a yellow filter when the image itself appears to be outside during the day.
otherwise I pick the color based on the lighting of the image itself. (a light blue-grey for night-time, for example).
Or you can use a white layer, which will work for any image.
Another option is to put a color to transparent gradient (I usually use white or some other very light color for this) on the image, like so:

that's where the setting is to change it on the gradient tool.

then I put the gradient on the image and set its opacity to 80%

then I added a black layer on overlay to balance the brightness of my new "light source".
