Why hello there. In this post I will be giving you some tips on how to survive the horror that is Elo hell. By reading this post, you may not want to kill yourself after every game anymore and maybe even ascend the ranks.

What is Elo hell?

To put it simply, Elo hell is what many people believe to be the lower part of the Elo ladder (1400-0), but in reality is whatever Elo they are currently in. It's the Elo they're currently hopelessly stuck in, in which they think everyone is holding them back.
I will be talking about "lower Elo" and how you should act to be able to stay calm. What I believe to be the biggest problem, is the attitude people have towards eachother and how that affects the games and everyones play.

1. Champion Select

This is a very important, if not the most important part of the game. When you get into a game, the first thing you always need to assume is people are stupid. Everyone is stupid and needs to be handheld the entire way through. What you also need to be aware of is these people are bombs. The slightest nudge might trigger them into an explosion of anger, which you don't want to happen.
Communication in the champion select screen is key. You want to make sure everyone knows what they're doing and if they are okay with it. Sure, you want to play your favorite role in order to carry these people, but unless you're some kind of god or 2k+ player, it's often not worth giving the last pick who very clearly said 'I CANT PLAY SUPPORT' a support. You want to try and get everyone to communicate and make sure they get the picks they're comfortable with. If you don't, chances are they'll get mad and start trolling your game, in which case you won't be able to carry them either way.

2. Mistakes

2a. Your mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes, even you. Realising this is very important and key to becoming a better player. What is also important, is how you deal with it when you do make a mistake.
When you do something wrong, chances are someone on your team will have seen it and will flame you for it. Whatever you do, do NOT respond to them. I know it's very tempting to try and defend your point and try and explain very clearly what exactly happened and what caused you to make that mistake, but no matter how polite you put it, no matter how much sense you make, IT WONT MATTER. They will just continue flaming you and eventually piss you off, causing you to make more mistakes and lose the game.
If people get annoying, or flame you without a reason, you need to put them on ignore right away. When they starting flaming for no reason, you know they will never really have anything useful to say regarding the game, so you might as well press that ignore button and not have to deal with them at all.
A wise quote to keep in mind: "Don't argue with idiots, they'll drag you down and beat you with experience."

2b. Your teammates mistakes

Yes, there will be tons of it, and you will want to point them out. But no matter how politely you do so and even if you're just trying to help, if you point out their mistakes, they will likely get mad and start shouting at you, which in turn makes their play even worse and his negative attitude might affect the rest of your team turning even the best of games into a one sided stomp.
Avoid pointing out peoples mistakes even if it's something as small as missing a Q on Ezreal. If they really do want to improve, they'll put in the effort themselves and you calling them out is not needed.

3. Calling MIA's

I know, I know, you hate it and you think it serves no purpose. In most cases, you're absolutely right. People who can't pay attention to the map, likely can't pay attention to the chat anyway and will die regardless of your MIA call, but DO IT ANYWAY. Why? To avoid giving them a reason to flame you. If they die cause your lane was missing and you didn't call it, they'll blame you for it, get mad and start playing worse. If they die cause your lane was missing and you DID call it, they'll just suck it up, try and pay more attention and in some cases even apologize. (I know, scary right?)

4. Ignore the enemy team

Seriously, just do it. As soon as the game starts, you want to ignore them right off the bat. They might be really nice people and they might just want to have a casual chat with you, but they're likely just another bunch of trolls. Remember: you need to assume everyone is stupid. EVERYONE. If you don't ignore them, you risk having them get under your skin when they kill you and talk smack to you. Just ignore them as the game starts and avoid dealing with them alltogether.

5. Losing streaks

These will always occur unfortunately, no matter how good you are. When you lose a couple of games in a row, your frustration will build up and you'll likely just play worse and worse, making it harder to win a game again.
When you find yourself in such a streak, just stop playing for a while after 2-3 losses, get some air, take a nap, watch some TV,.. untill you're completely calm again and you can queue up again. Remember, this is still a game and it's supposed to be fun.

6. Have something to distract you from the frustrations

This is also extremely important. No matter how well you keep everything to yourself and ignore everyone, there's always a high risk of getting frustrated. Getting frustrated will lead to lack of focus and will cause you to make more mistakes and get even more frustrated. It's an infinite loop of bad.
To help fend all the frustration, play with something that soothes you. This can be different for everyone. Music, TV, food, a random stream, stuffed animals..... WHATEVER. Get something. It helps.

So this post turned out a bit longer than expected. To sum it all up (tldr): Don't get mad, ignore rude people, have something to soothe you.
