Not that I play Shyvana, but in fact, you're not being tanky enough, you're probably just a burst shyvana with few defensive items throughout the game.
If you really argue with me saying that it's how you play her, then change your title to "Chernobyl's Way of playing Shyvana" or anything you like, do NOT say that your guide is sometihng that it isnt, also, I'd have to agree with you if you were to say that
Her ulti is a gap closer nuke, and even if it lets you become a huge AoE Dragon, you can still be CCed hard, you won't have that much of a buff on your stats, EVEN with higher armor and MR, it's not like you have a free Guardian Angel, Thornmail and Force of nature in a single skill.
No downvote and no upvote, if you're up to start an arguement, by the way, say something other than "But that's how I build her" in a guide which the title clearly expreses a specific type of build, thank you.
What happens when he is level 6? He gets his ult and suddenly he isn't weak? I don't agree with the top rated build guy. I think she is tanky from lvl 1 and then she just gets tankier (at least how I build). Lvl 6 gives you a gank ability or escape ability but it's far from an "I win" button.
However, he is not building Flat Magic Resist Glyphs / Flat Armor Seals either. And he goes in 9/0/21 which is just plain *insert trollface here* to me. I'm not saying he is doing it wrong, but its not a guide I will use. His item build is decent though; I agree with the core items up to Wit's End 100%.
But I guess it's like you say, we all have different opinions. It's all good! I did not mean to troll you (although I could have phrased myself more politely) but also, I did not down vote you.
What I reacted to was the guide is called "the Tanky DPS", I clicked on the link since I also play a Tanky Shyvana so I wanted to compare builds. But when I saw it, I think you are not building tanky enough from lvl 1 (no defense tree, no tanky runes) and claiming she is squishy early game. I just wanted to offer my 2 cents, thats all, and spent like 15min (then) + 15min (now) on doing so.
Oh and a typical game for me I get more kills and more assist...I may also get more deaths but I may not...depends on how the game goes.
And last thing...."* Also get a cloth armor as starting item (or magic resist mantle) depending on opponents.".. did you even read my guide? those are the exact two items I say to get first.... I even say to get them in an order that depends on your opponent...
* Easy to be Killed in early game before level 6
* Can be feed upon easily at low levels
I don't want to tell you "learn to play Shyv" so let me rephrase that: She is tanky from lvl 1. Here is my free advice for you to be better at Shyvana:
* For starter, get the right defensive runes. Flat Armor Seals + Flat Magic Resist Glyphs.
* 2nd - defensive tree is too good for Shyvana. Get the magic resist and armor in Tier 1 and pick up all health. Get movement speed in both defensive and utility.
* To get even more mobility I also run Movement Speed Quints. Sometimes you want to flee (defense) sometimes you want to chase (offense)
* Also get a cloth armor as starting item (or magic resist mantle) depending on opponents.

Its a typical result. I was laning vs Nasus with his insane sustain, I built early Wit's End and went Magic Resist boots and lots of potions. Played him super aggressive, harassing all the time and fleeing from his AoE whenever he placed it. And got out of his range when he wanted to Q-strike me so he had to blow it on a minion instead. He got outplayed eventually although he was quite good and super tanky himself...
