I signed up yesterday evening.
And they uphold the no subscription costs by charging you money only when you buy the game. Y'know, that thing that games used to do back in the old days.

Yea, back in the times where games used to be good.
I kid, but the amount of good games divided by the total was muuuuuch higher back then.
"Blizzard spoke thus; Thou shalt not BM. And the players replied Nay, I shall Play my hand with Lethal already on the board. And so Blizzard sent unto them this Brawl of Yogg, As a lesson for their sins of Pride and Greed, for he is the Prophet of Madness and RNG. On that day, the tavern descended into an era of chaos and darkness, until the weekend passed and everyone forgot all about it. Amen. Book of SMOrc, Verse 20, Chapter 4." - Feam T
They uphold subscription costs by two things, one the 60 dollars per game, also by selling extra character slots, costumes, and skill packs (if they do the skill pack thing its only for PvP characters). Because buying all those skills in game cost an arm and a leg, and wasn't viable for people only PvP'd.
I hope the PvP is as intense as GW's PVP was. In todays eSports world it has a chance to become a mainstay for the competitive leagues.

You mean, aside from every addon you were somewhat forced to buy on its release resulting in an average of 6-7$ per month?
Cheap, but regarding the open world factor still more than enough.

...What? Those weren't addons at all, they were basically full games in their own right. You only needed to own one to access the game and the full PvP system. If you didn't like the other games, there was absolutely no need to buy them since they didn't change the level cap at all or generally introduce any must-have items. Except Eye of the North, that actually was an expansion, but it still didn't change the level cap or give you anything drastic.
In WoW you have to buy the game, pay a hefty subscription fee, and they still release expansion packs that cost almost as much as the full Guild Wars games.
What I like about Guild Wars is that they very clearly offered you a product for an up-front price with no ********, so you could choose what to buy and not have to feel guilty if you didn't play the game for a while.

Let's see how they intend to uphold their no subscription costs.
